Art imitates Life

A Model Daughter: The Killing of Caroline Byrne includes on of the most bizarre casting moves in a long time. Here's why...

tania zaetta and kylieOne of the more bizarre aspects of A Model Daughter: The Killing of Caroline Byrne involves the casting of support roles.

The telemovie tomorrow night on TEN includes key players in Byrne’s modelling career, including deportment teacher June Dally-Watkins (Heather Mitchell) and fellow student Kylie Watson (Indiana Evans).

Watson befriended Byrne when she took her first steps into the world of modelling at the Dally-Watkins school.

When Byrne lost her life Watson didn’t believe it was suicide and, together with Dally-Watkins, helped Tony Byrne (Garry McDonald) to keep the police investigation alive.

Now 14 years later Watson has an actual acting role in the telemovie on the life of her friend.

She will play actress Tania Zaetta, who lunched with Byrne just two days before her death.

In this courtroom photo from the telemovie Watson is pictured on the left as Zaetta, while Indiana Evans is pictured on the right as Watson.

Looking at the cast bios on TEN’s website visitors could easily think they were reading a typo.

Certainly one of the more unusual casting choices in a while. The film airs 8:30pm tomorrow night.

  1. When I saw Kylie on the main page I said aloud, “What?!”
I can’t imagine wanting to relive something like that in a fim version.

@Macarthurblack While Kylie still looks like herself, she was a near-teen at the time and is now in her early 30s, so it would have been a bit odd.

  2. Was this case gossip-tabloid fodder at the time? I have absolutely no memory of it, and the names aren’t ringing any bells. Except Zaetta, but her name just says “Who Dares Wins” and “military faux pas” to me 🙂
