There were more than 500 possible titles proposed for the ABC’s Hungry Beast by the show’s young recruits.
They included everything from “Aardvark” to “Divided Front” to “Tits, Drugs and Cars.”
Presenter Marc Fennell has posted a photo essay on his blog of the show’s genesis after strangers were brought together from across the country by Zapruder’s Other Films.
“Everytime someone suggested a new name we were like small children who’d just found shiny new playthings. We’d abandon the old ones instantly and run with the new one…” he writes.
Once the title was locked in, there were still many more hurdles to overcome.

So the truth makes you cringe, huh? Then stop watching!
Yeah, what’s with all the “serious” stuff I have to think about? I hate it when television wants me to think! Bring back ‘Hey Hey’ & ‘Rove.’ Hungry Beast is so “patronising.”
I like Hungry Beast. But it seems to be a collection of unrelated content. I was seriously ROFLMAO about the Channel Nine parody last week. However, within 5 minutes was a dead serious item about pedophilia.
Seems like it’s made for the people in it rather than the audience -ie, they enjoy it more than the viewer. You should make a tv show for the audience, first and foremost.
community tv clip show aimed at high school children, with a couple of character assassinations thrown in. i tried to like it.
The comedy part of it is good, but when they get all serious (James Hardy, the pedo thing last week) it makes me cringe.
@KFed: Yeah! I thought to myself it’s kinda like BTN for adults. It also reminds of some other anti-establishment show that tries to tell people what to think but I can’t quite put my finger on it…(Does such a show even exist? Maybe it was a movie.) I also find it kinda pointless how they’ve got a million different people, most of whom are “Web content designers” or something.
Its a really good show that has found its groove.
I gave it a go for 4 weeks, but the show continued to fail in terms of direction, content, and humour.
This show should be on ABC3 kids for high schools to watch during daytime – that’s the feeling I get from it all.
I’ve tried to give this show a go, but does anybody else find the tone of it really patronising? It also has the feel of an mid-90s ABC kids show, and lets down the Wednesday block.
IMO.
Meh.
