Dance locks in Top 20

So You Think You Can Dance has locked in its Top 20 with more younger and hotter dancers than ever.

dance4The auditions are over. So You Think You Can Dance has locked in its Top 20 for next season’s show.

Dancers this week were beginning to shoot their publicity photos for the show in the lead up to the premiere in 2010.

Host Natalie Bassingthwaighte told TV Tonight producers have some new ideas to shake up the format.

“They’ve got some little tweaks up their sleeves, that even surprised me. Definitely surprised us. They even surprised the crew,” she said.

“I hate to say, because I don’t want to say the dancers last year or the year before weren’t amazing, but this is going to blow people’s socks off.”

TV Tonight understands next year’s troupe features more than a few younger and hotter dancers than before.

“They’re a new breed of 18 year olds, but there’s also more professionals who are older that have come in too,” says Bassingthwaighte.

“It’s completely blown our minds, the level of dance this year. And for the Top 100 to get to 20, I’m glad I wasn’t a judge put it that way. It was really difficult.”

Contestants are sworn to secrecy, forbidden from leaking their good news via Twitter, Facebook and MySpace before the show hits the screen.

And could the show undergo a title change? On TEN’s recent list of 2010 shows it noted Dance Australia in bold letters.

  1. Johnson, if you’ve never danced, you can’t comment. The physical strain these guys are under is immense to learn up to 4 routines in three days. They are already risking injury and I would not ask for them to be pushed any more than they are. It’s very easy to kill a dancers career by injury.

  2. Thanks for the info David. And will Ten be allowed to change the name of the program to Dance Australia? The original rights holder may have something to say.
One thing I want to see for next season is that the dancers perform live to air for two days in a row, to test their endurance and stamina. In the past two seasons, performance shows were taped on Friday nights and shown on Sunday nights.
