Fans rally for Rove

rvfAfter his shock announcement on Sunday night, Rove is now the subject of a Facebook campaign, “Come Back Rove McManus!”

Hey if it worked for Hey Hey it’s Saturday….

The imploring page, with its full title “Come Back Rove McManus! We Love You! You Can’t Go!,” was started by 24yo fan Guy Pickett.

In just 48 hours it already has nearly 2,500 members.

“I started this group on Facebook simply as a thankyou on behalf of the many Australians that have tuned in to watch what was an amazing television show for the past 10 years!” he told TV Tonight.

“I knew that the page would have the potential to take off! but not this fast! It’s been incredible. The fan meter just keeps on rolling with nearly 2500 fans in less than 2 days!”

I 100% agree; he’s just after big numbers and doesn’t care about actually getting the show back on the air.

Doesn’t surprise me he posted a status update like that. He will try anything to get more members. There’s no way Rove would do that.

This group is just another of his growing list now, trying to get them to 1000000 members. Funny enough, all of them stress the importance of inviting all your friends to the group. I wonder why.

He’s more than happy to spam any group with links to his ones, but try posting a link to one of your groups on any of is, and see how long it lasts there.

And one more thing, with one of the other groups, he also keeps closing the wall so people can’t post, and then floods the wall with messages about inviting all your friends to the group, and doesn’t open it again until people do it.

  2. RoveOnline says:

The page is basically spam (surprised it hasn’t been banned), after numerous email exchanges with Guy I tend to agree with Ashley’s comment about wanting numbers rather than actually wanting the show back on the air.

I support all groups that are fans of Rove but now regret recommending he try TV Tonight, in my personal opinion it was always about the fame and at one point he posted a status update (now removed) claiming if 1,000,000 users joined Rove would provide a personal video message. That’s always possibility but I somehow suspect that was just a ploy to attract more users.

  3. Arnold says:

Any news on when Rove is to have the medical procedure to remove Peter Heliar from his posterior ?

  4. Bella says:

I really don’t want Rove back. I think it’s had its day. The show just dragged and they didn’t always get good guests. The cast of Glee is one example.

  5. sgt. senor says:

oh get over it people, this is an opportunity for new shows.

  6. franz chong says:

His Show is one of the few talk shows of the Non Jerry Springer Variety that is not aimed at housewives and can be enjoyed by all.
I only have to think of the women most of which should be out working in the day watching that Dr Phil and Oprah Tripe to hurl.

  7. BigRoveFan says:

This is a story about how people on Facebook want Rove to come back to television, I am in that group. To all the people that hate Rove. This is about how people like Rove, not about the people that hate him. You shouldn’t compare Rove to Hey Hey Its Saturday because Hey Hey Its Saturday is just so not funny, & I think people are over it. Why don’t people keep their lame comments to themselves. I didn’t mean to offend anybody, but I am sticking up for Rove okay!

  8. Harry says:

Hes not going anywhere.. hes obviously still going to be on TV. Its Rove for gods sake. I hope TEN give either Hamish and Andy their own show for Sunday night or Shaun Micallef his own show for Sunday night.

  9. Ashley says:

Is it just me or does this guy seem more interested in having a large group on Facebook then getting Rove back on TV?

    @koverstreet
“your so right he is awful and his humour is childish and low brow at best. The very fact that he’s lasted so long is testament to the stupidity of many aust viewers” Yes, I couldn’t have said it better myself. I looked at the Facebook page and it’s literally saddening that some people there genuinely think that Rove is talented and hilarious.

  11. Mike Retter says:

    My Newly-weds one failed…

  12. Gloomy says:

I’ve watched just about every episode of Rove for over 8 years, but I think it’s a bit soon for a Bring Back Rove campaign. I’ve been invited to join several different facebbok groups dedicated to this notion and I’ve ignored them all. But then again, I never join any groups because it’s just facebook, it’s not real. I assume Channel 9 don’t quite understand that it wasn’t a group of dedicated Hey Hey fans, the fact is that in the facebook world; you see a friend has joined the bring back Hey Hey group so you click ‘join’ and never look at it again, and this cycle repeats hundreds of times.

  13. Spud says:

I heard he was planning to start a career in comedy.

  14. critic says:

can someone start a facebook page to keep him off air??

  15. Hanny says:

    Rove we love you!!!

  16. Andrew says:

Something tells me a Facebook group asking him to stay off TV would get more members.

  17. koverstreet says:

@ john johnson .. your so right he is awful and his humour is childish and low brow at best. The very fact that he’s lasted so long is testament to the stupidity of many aust viewers.

And Hey Hey was a much loved classic and so much better then Rove it’s incalculable!

I just love that next year Hey Hey will be back and Rove will be gone :)

  18. Gil says:

they don’t always work – my different strokes comeback page failed.

  19. scuz says:

Guy Pickett is actually Peter Hellier

  20. scott says:

Some people are pathetic beyond belief…

  21. Adam says:

lol, Hey Hey was off for 10 years, he has been off for 3 days.

Let him persue his life. he is probably bored.

  22. richo says:

I’m looking forward to the 2010 Rove Reunion Special! :P

  23. bette streep says:

bindi – you are right about Rove not ruling out a return to TV but I can understand why some fans would be more content knowing it is a certainty rather than a maybe.

As for me – I’d rather watch Rove and his naughty but nice antics than the outdated and unfunny racist ones from that blowhard Daryl Somers.

  24. JOhn Johnson says:

Why bother rallying this this bloke to return to tv? The guy has no talent and has about as much humour as a plank of wood! Plumbing might be a more suitable career move!

  25. Macarthurblack says:

Yeah, way too soon for this kind of caper. Give people a chance to miss him first.

  26. bindi says:

I don’t really think it is necessary, he didn’t rule out the possibility of a return to TV, give it some time and if he doesn’t come back on his own then start the campaign.
