This somewhat reminds me of another Four Corners segment back in 1989 when it look at the success of Andrew Peacock's coup against John Howard and that did no favours to Peacock at the 1990 election.

The comment made by the MP that climate change isn't happening because "it still rains" is stupidity of the highest order. I'm not a scientist nor do I have much scientific knowledge so I can't make any arguments either way about the issue, but I do know that just because it's raining it doesn't mean global warming isn't attributable to man. Someone deserves a Darwin award and yet I can guarantee a lot of people will eat it up. Surely this MP doesn't actually believe this?

Onto something I do understand: economics. This reminds me of the 2007 election debate where KRudd and Howard both pushed their economic credentials by saying they were 'responsible' with the economy, and to prove it they would pledge to keep the surplus at an ever increasing percentage of GDP (never mind what would happen in an economic downturn as happens every several years or so, when guess what? Economic growth slows and unless the government raises taxes or cuts welfare, we will have a budget deficit even Without increasing spending) . Stupid policy, but it sounds reasonable to the average person, so even though our politicians (hopefully) know their promises are harmful, it wins them votes. Real lowest common denominator stuff.

Should be an interesting episode of Four Corners highlighting how politics so often gets in the way of good governance. I too am a Labor man, but I do like Turnbull.

I think people need to get into the science more. There is a general consensus based on a lot of research and i dont think that can be thrown away because an MP walks outside and say "It still rains".

this should be a good episode. I'm an avid ALP man but quite like Turnbull, he's talent has gone to a loss with the Libs
