Channel Seven has signed recently-retired Geelong captain Tom Harley to its AFL commentary team.
Harley, who captained two premierships with Geelong, will join Bruce McAvaney, Dennis Cometti, Leigh Matthews and Tim Watson in Friday Night Football commentary roles.
Channel Seven Melbourne General Manager Lewis Martin said: “Tom’s been renowned for his courage, leadership and footy knowledge throughout his AFL career.
“He brings great character and style to his new role and will deliver forthright, honest and eloquent commentary to footy fans.”
Harley will also join the crew regularly on AFL Game Day.
This year, the newly-married Harley has also been a regular panellist on ONE’s One Week at a Time.

I agree, Friday should be shown live every week, as for Harley he will do a great job. OWAAT is a great show, but they should look at expanding it like the AFL footy show. Even Seven should try and come up with a hit AFL show in prime time.
I guess that means Matthew Lloyd will not be doing it. I love Tom Harley he will do a great job
Agreed. If Seven are smart in 2010 they would air the AFL @ 7.30 on 7 and put 2 hours of Better Homes and Gardens on 7TWO in Melb/Adelaide/Perth.
The networks share on a Friday night would be outstandingly massive if they did this.
Then once the Feds allow it, they could put AFL on 7/7TWO live or near live in all markets across the country, depending on the city.
So the TV guide would look like this:
7 Syd/Bri 7.30 Better Homes and Gardens
7 Mel/Ad/Perth: 7.30 AFL Friday Night
7Two Syd/Bri: 7.30 Live AFL Friday Night
7Two Mel/Ad/Per: 7.30 Better Homes and Gardens
Win/Win!
put friday footy on at 730pm and move better homes and gardens to 7TWO for crying out loud!
Good news. He will be doing a lot of flying between Sydney and Melb/Ad/Perth given there is no Friday night AFL games in NSW.
Can sombody tell Seven to go live on Friday night matches, they look like fools with their one hour delay.
probably see him on dancing with the stars as well. just too put enough self promotion on that show for the series
Tom’s a very good diplomat, meaning Seven’s coverage has lots of positives about it.
Lets hope he can convince the weird channel Seven team to go live on All the blockbusters it has!!! but i doubt it.
Yep Lewis I think you’re spot on there : )
@lewis, looks like it. i think Rebecca Maddern said he would be doing the tipping on the news. which was Bux’s old job.
Who?
Some AFL nuffy signing with 7 is newsworthy?
This is great news, and a big win for 7. Harley was a great panelist on One Week at a Time, and no doubt will shine in his new role.
Replacement for Nathan Buckley then I guess.
Shame as I enjoyed him on OWAAT and he will now have to put up with the sh*t coverage Seven have.
