Gone: The Spearman Experiment

After being shunted from Tuesdays by The Simpsons, now The Spearman Experiment is being replaced by.... The Simpsons.

magda (2)No more songs you’d never want on your iPOD or favourite underdogs -well not unless Magda returns in summer (and don’t rule it out).

After being shunted from Tuesdays by The Simpsons, now The Spearman Experiment is being replaced by…. The Simpsons.

Last Friday the show managed 541,000 viewers. The interesting point is The 7PM Project took 487,000 on the same night and it’s staying put. TEN committed to the show for 2010 last week.

The switch for Friday’s line-up is effective immediately with double eps of Homer & co. from 7:30pm.

  1. The funny thing is they get rid of this even though it rated slightly more than the 7pm project and it probably costs cents to do by comparison.

Now this just shows that the it was really there just to make the most profit with the least amount of dosh.

  2. I’m fed up with The Simpsons, but I was never a fan. I wouldn’t mind America’s Next Top Model on at that time. I know it’s already aired on Foxtel, but it’s still good to watch. Otherwise even a repeat of CMC would be better than The Simpsons IMO.

  3. Oh the irony. I actually watched the last episode aired (my 2nd after having watched the premiere) on Friday about ‘Reality TV Moments’, being the reality TV junkie I am. It was doomed from the start for being a cheap copy of 20 to 01. Poor Magda.

  4. This show was even worse than Twenty To One, and I think that’s because they pretty much copied the show and tried to convince australia that “we voted” for the results.

It’s one of the few shows to fail on ten this year, and the reason clearly is because it was a clone.

  5. Instead of more The Simpsons, why don’t Ten actually try something new and put The Office on Fridays? It can’t do worse than this surely, can it? I just wish they’d try it.

  6. Sorry to see Magda’s show fail, but 20-1 in a different skin – c’mon, the original is bad enough ffs.

As for 7PM, good on TEN for letting in find it’s spot, but honestly, it’s doomed to failure due to the poor, thinly spread hosts and comedic value it offers, and lets face it, the hosts have next to nothing in terms of actual insight on the issues of the day… Jon Stewart these guys ain’t (even without his massive team of writers).

  7. @ Regan

Repeats, of course. It would be a waste to air them on Fridays, plus, come tomorrow (Tuesday) night, Ten would have exhausted the current batch of new episodes as we’ll be up-to-date with the U.S.

  8. @GuanoLad – the fact Magda had the bare-faced audacity to tell Dave Hughes that it was nothing like 20 to 1 whe he asked her on 7PM Project, is probably a testimony to her skills as an actress.

  9. I always find it strange when Networks publicly pretend that shows on rival Networks don’t exist, and everything they’re coming up with is original and unique to them. Which is how Ten behaved when they began promoting Spearman.

Everybody else saw through it immediately, but Ten had their fingers in their ears, apparently thinking we’d be “fooled” by their cunning subterfuge.

    The mind truly boggles.

  10. Hooray for the death of this, one of television’s most shameful moments of 2009. I’m amazed it lasted this long.

Boo, though, to Ten, at the total lack of imagination with the replacement show. Even my 80 year-old mum was complaining yesterday that “all they show on channel Ten is that annoying Simpsons show”.

  11. Here’s an idea for a show…..

    Let’s call it “Network Programmers”.

It’s a reality show running once a week, where viewers watch the Ten Network’s Programmers and ideas department.

At the end of each episode, viewers select who gets fired.

The winner at the end of the series receives direct entry to Australian Idol and a Happy Meal or keeps their job paying a cool $30,000 per year.

  12. No more songs you’d never want on your iPOD or favourite underdogs… unless you turn over to Channel 9 and watch that terrible show Bert Newton hosts, that is close to the same thing.

  13. ten are complete idiots to have a show that turns in 500,000 and return it for the 2010 slate where it will be a lead in for their biggest rating shows! they could do a million changes to this show and it still won’t work

  14. Poor old Madga, she can’t get any luck the dear.

Hopefully she’ll find a vehicle more suited to her talents – she definately has potential.

As for the 7PM Project still going – that’s what happens when you have a person having plenty of clout being behind it – ie: Rove.
