Heather Locklear barely boosts Melrose
This isn’t good news or the future of Melrose Place’s revival on The CW network.
Heather Locklear’s appearance only boosted the show a disappointing 14% this week, which was still 30% down from its 90210 lead-in. It took just 1.5m viewers.
This week she had some comments to make about how much was riding on her shouders.
“Absolutely, this is on my mind, but hopefully my going there will bring some attention and make people watch because it’s not just about watching Amanda, it’s about bringing awareness to the show,” she said.
“It’s not a teenage show,” she added. “It just needs to get the attention of people and for people to get hooked because that’s what the original Melrose Place was about.”
“Before I saw the pilot they had asked me and I thought, ‘It’s a whole new network, new writers, how do I fit in?’ ” Locklear said. “I wasn’t sure we were supposed to be messing with this. I saw the pilot and I wasn’t sure, still. But then I saw the second episode and I thought, ‘This is really fun, the clothes are great and now they’re starting to get into some story lines.’”
TEN has the rights to the show for Australia and after its 90210 experience seems to be watching with interest how it travels in the US. Based on these figures it won’t be an optimistic outlook now.

In all fairness, the first few eps sucked. I’m an old school Melrose fan and really only tuned in for Laura Leighton who came back to resume her role of Sydney Andrews.
For those old school fans, it does get great…virtually to the point of Melrose seasons 2-4. Episode 12, the best so far of the season. Laura Leighton as Sydney, Thomas Calabro as Michael, Josie Bissett as Sydney, Daphne Zuniga as Jo and Heather Locklear as Amanda have all made appearences.
@Jerome: IO called “fail” on Melrose the moment it was announced, and “V” was quite obviously doomed, which was obvious just from watching its dreadful, dreadful first two episodes.
Maybe networks will finally get the message that lame revivals and remakes are not a good idea.
And to think, this time last year they were axing Pushing Daisies and Eli Stone. What a waste.
Is ch10 ever going to show Melrose Place this summer?? Or not. I have seen the first 10 episodes which are airing in america & I like it. Now that Amanda is back it should get interesting.
Woops!
Oh well, they tried … it is still better than 90210 … that needs axing now!
And bring back … The Beautful Life … without Mad Mischa!!!!
Please!!!
Jack!
There’s no need for Heather to feel any pressure – she’s only signed on (and I’m sure has been paid quite handsomely, but I doubt CW could afford her as a regular cast member) for a limited number of episodes and hasn’t become
a full time cast member,.
If the show is cancelled, she has nothing to worry about. Ten would (and should) only screen this on a 3rd channel, when they pull their fingers out and set one up.
14% is a healthy increase. The buzz from on-the-ground here in the US is extremely positive. DVR figures for the episode have broken non-commercial network records. Expect a full season 1 pick-up & a season 2 re-up announcement within the fortnight.
the big news from the US is V’s ratings. huge drops from the big premier. will probably be getting axable figs next week, and god knows how low it will be after the 3.5month gap between ep 4&5. another slap to the hitless 2009/10 US season.
TEN could always screen it on ONE, since being bitchy can be a sport, right?
Melrose Place is quite good, I actually prefer it to Season 2 of 90210 (which is getting real bad, and the actors all look as old as the Melrose residents).
The CW should not be dropping the axe just yet. I want to see how it goes after episode 13 when the change in storyline occurs.
I didn’t watch much of the original series, so the return of the older characters, even though I know of them, I dont know their full past, so it doesnt matter if they visit for me.
IMO these will be on TEN2 when TEN launches it’s 3rd channel next year.
Still such poor ratings? Is the CW a FTA in the States, or a cable show? If FTA, they are dismal ratings regardless of the little spike.
