Idol: Sony signs Warner

'Rock chick' Hayley Warner again shows winning Idol isn't everything, after being signed to Sony Music.

vlcsnap-16300Australian Idol runner-up Hayley Warner has been signed to Sony Music following the show’s grand final last weekend.

The 17 year old ‘rock chick’ will release “Good Day” as her first single, the song she revealed at Idol’s penultimate episode.

“I just want to hit while the iron is hot,” she told the Sunday Telegraph.

CEO Denis Handlin said, “Hayley has great enthusiasm and energy and brings a unique performance style that the public have really responded to. We look forward to working with her on her first album which will be released in 2010.”

Idol runner ups have often fared better than those they were beaten by with Anthony Callea, Shannon Noll and Jessica Mauboy all second-place getters in the reality contest, but forging lasting careers. Others including Lisa Mitchell, Ricki Lee Coulter, Bobby Flynn, Paulini Curuenavuli, Rob Mills, Dan O’Connor and Carl Riseley have also had careers in the biz.

2007 Idol runner up Matt Corby is a finalist in the first Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition, with the winner to be announced on Tuesday.

  1. So Stan with one single in a chart for one week so far is successful but one of Australia’s most respected singers, Anthony Callea, isn’t? Peter you’re really getting carried away now. You need to look beyond the NZ pop-charts and find out more about some of those other people you dismissed too.

Guy’s success or otherwise isn’t dependent on putting others down and he’s always supportive of other artists. You’re not doing him or his fans any favours.

I wish both Stan and Hayley well. As the article said, there’s every chance they will both find success.

  2. Peter (or is it Prinia) – I admire your enthusiasm but there is no need to run down other artists to build up your favourite.

Great news to hear that Callea is again the act of choice to support an international superstar – Diana, Celine and now Whitney – some pretty big highlights there. 😉

It will be interesting to see if he can retain his record as the only ‘Idol’ to have had every one of his releases top 20 or better when his 3rd album, which he is currently recording is released next year.

  3. Whatever David. I will leave you to dwell the careers of people who fail to win idol. I will celebrate the success that comes from actually winning. Two winners 6 years apart are sitting in the top 100 of NZ itunes at the moment. Stan at #1 with Black Box, and Guy at #9 with Art Of Love and #85 with Like It Like That. Can’t see any non winners in there. Don’t think one has been in there since 2004.
