Kath & Kim on the cards

Jane Turner and Gina Riley are back in creative mode for more on their beloved characters.

kkIt’s official. Jane Turner and Gina Riley are back at work on Kath & Kim.

But it might not necessarily be for television.

Jane Turner confirmed to AAP that she and Riley are back in creative mode on the beloved characters, after last working on the series in late 2007.

In 2008 they watched as the US production attempted to find its comic legs, but the translation never took hold. More recently Gina Riley has toured with the stage musical Chicago. She ended her role as ‘Matron Mama Morton’ last Sunday.

“We’ve been writing a few things and we’ve sort of got Kath and Kim stuff we’re going to do – not sure if it’s going to be a series or some other form, a stage musical, I don’t know.

“We love doing them so we’ll find a spot for them somewhere hopefully again.”

It’s great the way the two girls can pick up their characters after a break -like our very own French and Saunders.

It has previously been reported that the two writer performers could shift their attention to a series featuring ‘Prue and Trude.’

  1. please, no kath & kim movie, the characters (usually) work great over 30 mins but they can not sustain 90 mins. remember da kath & kim code?
hopefully the time off has revitalised them – the last series was a dire immitation of it’s former self.

  2. Peter, i’d say that your suggestion would be highly likely if a new season was to go ahead. also because you can hardly imagine shane warne signing as a cast member so time would have to pass for wayne and sharon to go through a marriage and divorce.

  3. Speaking of old classics coming back, I want to see another series of Russell Coight’s All Aussie Adventures. That’s one of the funniest show’s I’ve watched. Sure some of the humour is repetitive, but I just love the Russell coight character. I wish he would come back in some form.

  4. A Kath and Kim musical is a great idea and allows the characters to stay fresh.

Given both are fine actresses and have had extensive theatre roles, this seems like the next logical step.

I’d certainly pay to see it!!

  5. Funniest. Show. Ever.

God I wish Australia produced more sitcoms or comedies or scripted comedies or whatever we call them today.

When done well (K&K, Summer Heights High) they are Genius.
