The Seven Network has dominated the television awards at the 2009 Walkley Awards, the country’s top prizes in media journalism.
Seven won four awards, including accolades for Seven News and Today Tonight.
The ABC picked up three awards, for Four Corners and Foreign Correspondent.
SBS won two, for Dateline and the Forbidden Lie$ documentary.
Nine’s Tracy Grimshaw won the interviewing award for A Current Affair.
SBS screened an edited and delayed broadcast of the awards last night. The awards for print, radio, television and online media were dominated by wins to stories covering the Black Saturday bushfires.

what are you talking about Sam? the Four Corners story was terrific – Johns has no one to blame but himself. if he didn’t do anything wrong then there would not have been any story in the first place!
Kuttyswood you may as well give up your strange obsession over Seven’s 5.30 timeslot in Brisbane. Nine axed Extra, and Seven aren’t going to replace it or chuck a Gold Coast News in at 5.30 no matter how much you moan and complain and present your flawed argument in any article that has even an obscure link to news, game shows or ratings. Get over it!!

The Brisbane contingent has probably just raised the likelihood of a Seven-produced Gold Coast news service tenfold. Pity it isn’t reflecting in the 6pm ratings, from strong 300,000+ averages to 263k averages since the start of July.

Im i reading this right- that four corners won an award for sports?? please tell me this is typo…this story “code of silence ” was the biggest beat up and discusting witch hunt for matty johns i have ever seen – gutter utter Cr@p …unbelievable that this story was rewarded for what – ruining a fellow media person career…they should be ashamed to accept it

Agree with Andy, TT and ACA winning a Walkley not only makes me vomit, but is a blight on the awards and another nail in the coffin for decent home grown journalism.

7news Melbourne is back (after the whole Mal Walden episode which devastated them).
Congratulations to all the winners, especially Gold Walkley winner Gary Hughes from The Australian, who lost his St Andrews home and his possessions (including the three Walkleys he won before) and still managed to write his personal account of Black Saturday. As the judges said, “that’s what the print journalism is all about.”
Today Tonight won an award for journalism? Now i’ve seen everything! And while outside the scope of your tv blog, it is worth noting that the ABC also won 5 awards for the radio division.
