Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin -Oscars hosts

By David Knox on November 4, 2009 / Filed Under News 7

mart baldSteve Martin and Alec Baldwin will co-host the 2010 Academy Awards.

The announcement of dual hosts follows the recent news that Hugh Jackman declined another gig.

“We’re expecting a spirit du combat,” Oscars producer Bill Mechanic said, adding that organisers liked the idea of contrasting personalities.

The move is likely to be seen as a free kick to the upcoming comedy It’s Complicated.

Both the stars feature in the film as dueling love interests of Meryl Streep. If either nabs a nomination for acting, they would be the first Academy Awards host to be nominated while presiding at the ceremony since Paul Hogan in 1987. Hoges was co-hosting with Goldie Hawn and Chevy Chase at the time -the last occasion it had multiple hosts.

Steve Martin said, “I am happy to co-host the Oscars with my enemy Alec Baldwin.”

It will take place in the US on March 7th ….and hopefully live to air in Australia again.

While I think NPH would be a great host, I think it’s wise to not have him so soon to another big award show. Next year for sure!

Bad idea. They should have gone with either Hugh Jackman or Neil Patrick Harris. Either would be stupendous. Jackman did a bang-up job last year (best Oscar telecast since the last time Billy Cristal hosted) – and NPH has proven himself by hosting both the Tony’s and the Emmy’s flawlessly. While I like Steve Martin (and Alec Baldwin) – neither would be my first choice to host a softball game – let alone the Academy Awards.

Cool, but I am more looking forward to Ricky Jervais on the Golden Globes even though the GGs mean nothing.

No doubt will be cool though.

I think this is a great combo to host the Oscars together, unfortunately I haven’t watched an Awards show in at least 5 years.

That’s not such a bad choice of hosts right there… I hope they can pull it off.
