The 11pm Project

7pmAnother new plan for The 7PM Project after TEN has announced the show will now have a late night timeslot over summer.

From November 30th it will screen at both 7pm and again at 11:15pm or slightly later, to follow the TEN Late News.

As previously reported, on Mondays and Fridays it will also be a one hour show.

TEN is very keen to do what it can to have the show tested by new eyeballs. Last year it programmed Out of the Blue in late nights, conscious that viewers’ schedules are changing with holidays and weather.

This now bumps some programmes to later including repeats of Medium, Criminal Intent, Numb3rs and The Late Show with David Letterman (the latter now starting as late as 1:30am Saturday morns).

But TEN should really be rolling straight out of TEN Late News, The 7PM Project into Letterman. Why do we need to see replays of US dramas when the network can segue from one chat format into another?

We blogged. You listenin’?

They should have never introduced Sports Tonight in the first place.

Why not between News and Letterman go find some old british comedies and use that to fill the gap.something light to end the day with.

Even Benny Hill no matter how old the show is would be more preferable than hearing about the day in sports.

  2. franz chong says:

How much News does one need in a day to be honest.

  3. Casey says:

If and when Ten gets sold off and Ten launch a 2nd channel, they can slot Letterman at a 9.30 – 10.30 pm timeslot (while still showing it later on the standard channel), for viewers who want to see it at a stable and earlier timeslot.

  4. Harry says:

Meh, Im still convinced 7PM will fail next year as well.. no matter what TEN do with it. Its a shame because its actually quite enjoyable but Hughsey/Charlie annoy me which is the reason as to why I stopped watching. Charlies humor annoys me so much!

  5. KFed says:

Can I Blog and Ten listen about how much I hate nights when Letterman is late? The best thing that happened when Ten took on the show was that it had a regular time slot, and now it’s all over the place. Please just put it on after the news. Chuck 7pm on after that is you must.

  6. Jed says:

As long as they get rid of Dave Hughes the show has the potential to improve. The other night they were chatting to a woman about the apology to people abused in state care, going well and then Dave Hughes asks a question “so you want compensation yeah?” Sure a valid question but theres a way to do it. He’s hopeless on this show.

  7. chrissyboy says:

ten was so good [usually] with showling letterman until recently……gradually doing to letterman what 9 did…just edging it on later and later……makes me sad – more stuff for the pvr

  8. Daniel Warque says:

That’s It TEN! You just can’t keep Letterman in one spot. That 7PM Project has to go I don’t want a 7pm and 11pm project. It will be like 7eleven every night! Could they learn from The spearman experiment or can Rove say it’s an enterprise I didn’t see failing, so I will pull the pin! I can’ believe your summer, It sounds too off putting, apart from the Simpsons. Also Why did you intend to skip a whole season of the Simpsons. If I’m right it was 11/12. Who gives a stuff if it just got released. And also could you show episodes from seasons 1-5! Why did you cut them!

  9. John says:

i love 7pm. more the merrie. i think its bloody funny and the best way i get my news.

  10. franz chong says:

We Pray that the 7pm Does Not Fail.could you imagine anything worse than having to go back to old Seinfeld Episodes to follow Neighbours or Gasp Horror They decide to Move Bold and the Beautiful to that hour and give the 4:30pm timeslot back to Childrens Television like it used to be.

  11. cpandilo says:

I agree. Ten should continue to show Letterman at a decent time aka before midnight like that said by others and such as that proposed by David in the article. C’mon Ten, at least put the drama repeats on After Letterman!

  12. MikeyMike says:

Love Letterman – won’t be happy. Please 10…though seems you’ve made up your minds

  13. Jimbo says:

Leave Letterman at 11.15pm!!!! It’s bad enough it’s on later on Mondays and Fridays. Shame on you, Channel Ten!!!

  14. Nick says:

Noooo… Sports Tonight is tedious enough.

    Keep Letterman at 11:15pm!!

  15. Paull says:

I would have thought letterman would be axed because of the scandal going on over there.

  16. Leon says:

    Out of programming Ch10??

  17. timmy says:

    The 7-Eleven Project?

  18. Dan says:

I would watch this show if the hosts were different. I can’t stand Charlie Pickering or Dave Hughes, and Carrie Bickmore seems nice but she’s not appealing enough for me to tune in. And repeating the show late at night is not going to change that!

What I do think would be a good idea is if Seven revived The Nightcap on 7TWO. I really enjoyed that show – the personalities worked well together and it always gave me a laugh. It was never going to get decent ratings on 7HD, but seeing as how there is a growing audience on it’s new channel now might be the time to give it a go.

  19. Bogues says:

Love 7pm project (watch it most nights at 7pm) and love Letterman. Rather disappointed that Letterman is now going to be too late for me to watch it most nights. 7pm project is available for download if people want to watch it later at night. Letterman isn’t.

  20. Andrew says:

Wont that give them worst ratings!? cause people will watch something else at 7pm cause they know they can see the show again at 11pm.. And Home & Away isnt even on then!

  21. Ruddeger says:

The way it’s going Letterman episodes will air on The Comedy Channel [12.45am] before they do on Ten
Nobody gives a crap about the 7pm Project at 7pm.I doubt even less are going to bother late at night.

  22. scott says:

I too want to see letterman at a regular timeslot. I do not want to see American drama repeats. Hope you’re listening Ten.

  23. Russell says:

    @Damo
It’s not about getting huge amounts of viewers at 11. It’s about sampling and exposing the show to a wider aud.
If 15% of those who view at 11p get into the show and follow it to 7pm, that is an extra 40,000 viewers or so.

  24. David Knox says:

    GuanoLad… a repeat.. still called 7PM.

  25. Pete says:

What crap. I love Letterman and won’t be watching now if it is on any later.

  26. damo says:

tell me how well did the repeats do a day later at 3pm. the ratings showed they werent good. if people arent watching it at 7. what make 10 think they will watch it at 11.

  27. GuanoLad says:

Is it an exact repeat, or a different late update? Will it be called the 11PM Project at its later screening?

  28. Bella says:

Really not happy about Letterman being moved around. If they must repeat The 7pm Project why not put it on after Letterman? Honestly who is going to watch the Late Night News and then bother with a repeat of The 7pm Project when they’ve already watched the news. It just doesn’t make any sense.

  29. Justin says:

@Stephen H – Nurse Jackie has never been treated like crap infact ten have persisted even if its figures have been shocking.

  30. mikeys says:

Agree with you David re: going from 7PM straight into Letterman… May as well have some sort of consistency in the schedule to help build a following…

  31. Stephen H says:

Why does 10 show so much favourtism to this show? Yet shows like Dexter and Nurse Jackie get treated poorly and no patient shown.

  32. Justin says:

Maybe this is a sign that it will occupy late night timeslot if it fails next year and be placed at 10:30 instead. Maybe.

  33. JohnTV says:

Oh God, this show is about to become TEN’s new simpson !!!

  34. David says:

It’s a good show though, I reckon it provides a decent alternative to Home & Away and 2.5 men repeats. First time in years that I’ve regularly watched something at 7pm (the last time would have been sale of the century)

  35. Kuttsywood says:

If Ten likes people blogging, which they listen to, tell me why, Ch 10 in Brisbane hasn’t recieved a new news set, after all the bellyaching we (by we, I mean me) do on this blog (and others).

I reckon they should have just a “The “insert time” Project” title. Save people having to get confused.

  36. alfagirl says:

Why mess with Letterman when it is settled into a good time slot. I agree with you David that it already doesn’t make sense to have repeats of Medium on a Monday night which push back Letterman. I watch the 7.PM Project at 7.00pm and once is enough. I don’t care about the “new eyes”. This plan really annoys me.

  37. koverstreet says:

Good idea by 10 but agree the rpts of otherwise excellent shows like Medium are not needed.

I’ll likely watch the 11pm version over the 7pm one as it feels like more of a late night show and I can enjoy it more when I’m not rushing around cooking dinner and whatnot.

  38. ryaneco says:

I agree. I don’t see the need for repeat Drama at such a late timeslot when Surely David Letterman isn’t going to do any worse than the drama offerings especially that late at night (when TEN only report 6-10.30 figures anyway) and let those who enjoy letterman watch him at a half decent time, this should be the norm in ratings period as well Straight into Letterman after the news at 11-11.30 whenever the news ends on that particular night.

  39. Lyn says:

Why do they continue to put Letterman on so late?
Tuesday thru Thursday they can put it on at 11:15pm, which is great.
But Monday and Friday, it’s anyone’s guess!!

If we blog, will they please listen to this????

    I hope so!!!!

    It’s driving me completely nuts!!!!

So, please, Channel 10 fix it!!!!!

    Thank you. :)

  40. Craig says:

ITA why are they showing re-runs of Medium and others before Letterman?

Can’t wait for their 3rd channel, (2nd SD) for all the shows not now airing on TEN HD.

As for 7PM it might work better as a late night show but I guess now I won’t be able to watch Letterman’s monologue before I go to bed…

  41. Brodie says:

Ten have shown a lot of patience with this show which is commendable, but it has had more than enough time to find a decent audience – yet it hasn’t.
