tiger-woodsChannel Nine will break into programming for Tiger Woods’ first and only Press Conference today, expected to be around 12pm.

Meanwhile, the draw for the sellout Australian Masters is to be finalised today.

Woods could be teeing off at around 7 am on Thursday, well before coverage starts on Nine and FOX Sports at 12:30pm.

But Nine also has the Today show on location.

He is also expected to play just after noon on Friday.

  1. @neon kitten,

it seems like that we have two views on this, i love tiger and the exictement he brings. when he loses i think his showing emotion of any regular golfer, which is fine, i dont think it is petulant at all. i believe he is the greatest sportsman of all. anyway, that your opinion and thats fine, i just disagree.

  2. @TV Tragic and Sameer: You misread what I wrote. I enjoy pro-level golf on TV. I in no way think it’s “boring”.

What I was saying, which only Kenny seems to have picked up on, was that Tiger Woods is a bad sport. When he’s winning, he’s a statesman. But watch him when he’s losing – it’s like watching a petulant child that’s just been told by mommy that if he doesn’t eat his greens he can’t have a lollipop.

That, and the fact that he only shows up to “little” tournaments like this for the cash, really says all you need to know about Tiger woods. Hence me asking, why should we care?

  3. Given that Nine knew about this press conference, they could have adjusted their porgramming and the EPG for the day to suit – leaving Ellen to start at 12.30, View 1.30, etc rather than leaving the daily audience for those shows – the majority of who I imagine could not give a toss about golf – left waiting – and for those who record and watch later, seeing only half of the show.

Nothing against breaking from programming when they think it is important to do so, just the fact that when they do they do not inform viewers or update EPGs.

Something like this even (from CBS US yesterday): CBSTweet: Due to NFL overrun, each show start time on tonights primetime lineup is delayed by about 20 minutes in East and Central time zones.

  4. @Neon Kitten. Agree. He wasn’t coming here until he was thrown $3.3M just to show up. “Great sportsman”? Gimme a break. Would Nine give the press conference the priority they are if they weren’t looking at it as a half-hour promo?

  5. that the way golf tournaments work, you play early one morning and late the other, this way he will play late on friday, and channel nine can use to boost the ratings for the rest of the weekend. i think it flows better for tv, for tiger to play friday arvo. very interested to see how it rates, could it pass a million on sunday.

@ neon kitten, you clearly have no idea about this subject.

  6. Neon Kitten you are so bitter. Tiger Woods is one of the world’s greatest sports stars. People get paid appearance money to play tournaments all the time. Tennis is notorious for it. If golf was so boring why are the practice sessions and the tournament itself sold out. The amount of people playing golf in Australia is huge. Cannot be that boring.
