Cleo bachelor for Shear Genius

The next Tabatha? Australian Joey Scandizzo is one of several international contestants in Bravo TV's reality series on hair styling.

joey2US reality series Shear Genius, from which Tabatha Coffey was plucked for Tabatha’s Salon Takeover, is to have another Australian contestant for its third season.

He is former Cleo Bachelor contender and Australian Hairdresser of the Year finalist Joey Scandizzo.

Scandizzo’s “affinity for luscious locks began at the age of 14, initially as a way to practice flirting with girls. But while sweeping hair at a family members hairdressing business, he discovered his passion for hair went deeper.”

He left secondary school for professional hairdressing and made a name for himself by directing hair for the Perth Fashion Festival.

Scandizzo is currently the artistic director and part owner of South Yarra’s Rokk Ebony salon and has won accolades at several cutting competitions including Hair Expo, Wella Trend Visions and Star Search Collections.

He has noted doing hair for Ian Thorpe at the Logies as his strangest career move.

“We did a Mohawk on him and everyone paid him out for it and it was in all the papers the next day. I mean, he loved it but it was just so full on for The Logies and the next day we were all just getting paid out by mates. That was pretty full on.”

The third series kicks off in the US in February with a new host Camila Alves, new judge and new mentor.

Contestants will compete for a $100,000 prize, an apprenticeship with Nexxus and the opportunity to style hair at a photo shoot for a spread that will appear in Allure magazine.
