rpddSBS has signed a three-year deal with Blackfella Films, the team behind recent AFI winner First Australians.

The deal with Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale will result in a slate of four major drama and documentary projects to be delivered over the next three years.

Perkins said, “Blackfella Films’ relationship with SBS has created distinctive content for Australian audiences and we are excited about the range of projects we’ll be developing and producing with SBS under this new arrangement.”

SBS’s Director of Content Matt Campbelladded, “Blackfella Films did a sensational job for us with First Australians and it’s logical for us to continue that relationship with a slate which will tell some of Australia’s most powerful contemporary stories.”

I’ll tell you what Luke, why don’t you move to a country with a white minority and start your “whiteman films”. I’m sure nobody will object, unless of course they are a tad racist…

Someone should remind SBS management they are national broadcaster, not an independent production company. As such, this is not an appropriate deal for them to enter into. The wider indigenous production community should be as outraged as the rest of us. Current management is lost in la-la land.
