ACA turns ghostbusters on TT

A Current Affair has been swift to stick the boot into Today Tonight over a phony ghost story.

A Current Affair has been swift to stick the boot into Today Tonight this year.

Last night the Nine show took it’s competitor to task over a story it had reported on a potential ‘ghost photograph’, snapped by a young man, Adam Harris (pictured, right), on a haunted tour.

It was particularly critical of reporter Jonathan Creek.

The ‘spooky’ photo Harris snapped turned out to be his partner’s sister, snapped through the tinted window of a car. Someone may not have been quite as upfront over the photo and a certain television show may have ended up looking just a tad silly.

Following his story on TT, Harris has since told ACA that Creek and ‘his boss’ had threatened to track him down.

Creek has allegedly told Harris via Facebook “If you agree to talk to us, my boss won’t have me chase you,” and “We always knew it was fake, the experts picked it.”

On Wednesday TT host Matt White told viewers Harris had refused to talk. “It seems he too has now vanished,” he said.

Harris told ACA reporter Damian Murphy (pictured, left) he was “truly sorry” for the photo, although Nine seemed pretty content to have had the opportunity to embarrass its rival.

But wait, isn’t Nine the network that has gone and hired 2009’s infamous hoaxer to co-host one of its shows this year? ACA summer host Leila McKinnon seemed pretty happy to wish Claire Werbeloff a happy new year during the New Year’s Eve fireworks.

Who’s been truly hoaxed? The viewers.

  1. I cringe everytime I see one of those news ‘ads’ on Nine or Seven. The ads scream arrogance. Stop boasting about how ‘good’ your news service is, that’s
not something you decide, it’s something the viewers do. It actually puts
me off watching either seven or nine news.

  2. Hilarious and the reporter’s name is Jonathan Creek as well!

Is this the same Jonathan Creek from the BBC show about the magician solving bogus mysteries?

I’m sure one of the stories was the ‘Case of the Fake Ghost’!

  3. I remember when Seven did ghost stories such as the ghost in the photo back in the day when Warwick Moss was hosting The Extraordinary, some of the stories were quite credible even though I am rather skeptical about ghosts. But it just doesn’t work nowadays because ghost photos can be easily made using photo editing software.

It doesn’t matter why TT went ahead with this story, it still looks bad for them.

  4. Both shows should be victim to a media car-crash which leaves no survivors so 7 and 9 have no choice but to put some actual Journalism back on in their place.

  5. Ch 7 and Ch9 news, TT and ACA are becoming extinct. Plain and simple. Even my mum is now watching Sky News after 30 years watching Ch9 news. It has nothing to do with hosts, more content.

  6. I’m often left wondering who is at fault for what I consider to be poor, cheap and tacky journalism – the reporters, the producers, the competing network, or the Australian viewers who lap it up… It’s seems to be a combo of all 4.

I have NFI why people watch or how they rate so well…

  7. Hate it when they attack each other. Who saw the Nine News ad where it says, “Thank Sydney for Switching back to Nine News”, talk about Arrogance and later in the ad, it says Leading the Way, isnt that 7NEWS Sydney tagline?

  8. Channel Seven is always making up story and it got to the stage where Channel Nine has become to the better channel. I never will watch Seven anymore after the amount of s*** claims and stories on many of its programs. Channel Nine is number one in my eyes and in 2010.
