Kelly Nestor “shell-shocked” by Adelaide axe

Former Adelaide Nine News presenter Kelly Nestor says her axing came completely from left-field but finds reason to look forwards.

9adNine’s former Adelaide newsreader Kelly Nestor has spoken about her axing, describing it as having a “shell-shocked” impact on her.

Nestor was dropped by WIN-managed Nine in late November, just a day after local editions of A Current Affair were axed in Adelaide and Perth. She continued at the station until December 18th.

Out of contract from January 1st, she was free to speak about the decision which she said came completely from left-field. It belied her work rebuilding ratings against Seven.

“When I started reading on my own, the ratings started climbing and so when I got to this meeting, I was honestly thinking this would be good, that something exciting had been planned. They then told me, very bluntly, that I wouldn’t be back and it was like I wasn’t hearing it properly. I kept saying ‘excuse me?’ and they kept repeating it. It was very bizarre.”

76% of AdelaideNow poll readers didn’t agree with the move by Nine.

Nestor hasn’t detailed her next move, preferring to take her time before charting a new direction. Encouragingly in this industry, she already sees life beyond the small screen.

“2010 has given me a huge blank canvas and I’m excited because I can put whatever I want on it. It’s a chance for me to reinvent myself but I want a job that will help me discover who I am again.

“Television won’t define me.”

  1. I wish they would have taken the axe to that bozo that sat next to her. Rob Kelvin is a nightmare to listen to, I’m sure one day he will get a sentence out… one day….

  2. “ratings started to climb”??????

    oh pluheeze… get real kelly!!!

and what a kick in the pants comment this is to rob kelvin

no more articles about kelly hestor, klestor, or who ever she is!

  3. Very strange decision by 9, not sure why they did that.

Nestor was no better or worse than the other usual newsreaders out there – i suspect that the woman who hosted the local edition of A Current Affair will get her old job at the newsdesk – a further continuation of the typical ‘Arthur and Martha’ newsreading format.

  4. all these articles about Kelly and how missed she is and what a mistake 9 made in not renewing her contract, enough already! No other station has made her an offer, not even radio.

  5. I’m sorry this very very mediocre newsreader acts like she is the first person on the planet to have Ever been fired.
    guess what???
if you’re not performing well in your bosses eyes – you get sacked. Hello!
maybe better to look at your performance rather than try and lay blame elsewhere.

  6. what a sloppy article! Where is the right of reply by 9? Her claims about increase in ratings is false. Some fact checking by the Advertiser wouldn’t go astray
