Renewals: Glee, The Middle, Cougar Town, Modern Family

Second season renewals in the US will mean good news for each of our commercial networks.

A number of new shows have had renewals in the US, proceeding to their second seasons.

The are Glee on FOX and The Middle, Cougar Town and Modern Family on ABC.

As a result each of our commercial networks gets at least one green light.

Glee will also add three new cast members, which it will solicit from a nationwide talent search. The hunt will include both professional and amateur performers between the ages of 16-26.

The three comedy renewals for ABC contrasts with the cancellation of Hank starring Kelsey Grammer. There is no decision yet on the future for their other comedies, the new-look Scrubs or Better Off Ted.

Meanwhile Secret Life of the American Teenager has also been renewed for a third season by ABC Family.

  1. Better Off Ted is one of the best shows out there. So original and funny. Not like The Middle. Come on, the youngest kid even looks like Dewey from Malcom in the Middle.

    Save Better Off Ted!

  2. Yay for Glee. Looking forward to Modern Family, and to a lesser extent Cougar Town. The Middle is good but I’ve recently ditched it for New Simpsons. Could not care less about Scriubs, Better Off Ted and the other one.

  3. I wish they would stop the confusion over season numbers and us the original US numbering, S1 was 23 eps (just finished on Fox8, S2 will have 24 eps and has aired about half in the US.

  4. I wouldn’t be surprised if Scrubs has gone. The latest season has been somewhat enjoyable, but nothing compared to the original run. I recall reading somewhere that the main reason they went ahead with S9 was so there was enough episodes for syndication.

After watching the Season 8 finale, which back then was intended as series finale, I really wish they had not gone ahead with Season 9 / ‘Med School’. They ended it really really well for a sitcom, and they won’t match that with these new characters – Cole is just irritating and the Security duo are just lame.

  5. urgh. They cancelled Back to you (i know – last year), yet the renew the middle? Thats just insane. Maybe kelsey grammar needs to do a role on law & order / some movie and play a dark & completely repulsive villain – so he can get away from his frasier persona as possible. It was sucha strong character in a great tv series, that maybe the public are having trouble adapting to a non-frasier kelsey?

As for glee – won’t they need to change the student portion of the cast every year? im going on the assumption that the main members of club are in the last year of highschool?

  6. Better Off Ted – is a great show, hope it gets picked up and can air on FTA here.
Scrubs – isn’t as bad as I thought it would be, still has the same feel as the original.
Modern Family – another top show and can’t wait for it to air locally
The Middle – even staring Patricia Heaton this is a good show with it’s own charm.
Glee – good news for TEN and nice to see an origial drama and not a cop/medical show make it.
Cougar Town – funny sitcom, come on Seven just air it already!

  7. better off ted and scrubs have absolutely no chance at renual the ratings are terrible and scrubs has made syndication already.

@RichoTB: Kyle KY was not on ABC, it was on ABC Family, totally different thing.

  8. Better Off Ted has to get another season – it is so original and funny
Scrubs – not very good at all. I would be happy to see it let go
Modern Family – I could not even tolerate it enough to watch the first episode in full.
The Middle – I prefer the orignal Malcolm In The Middle, not a knock off.
Glee – I feel like I should watch this, everyone I know seems to, and loves it.

  9. Fantastic news about Glee. Such a brilliant show!
I’ve seen the first 5 episodes of Scrubs and even though it is largely a different cast the show still works. It is funny and touching at the same time – just like the ‘old’ Scrubs.
I’ve also seen the first 5 episodes of Modern Family and that show is terrific.

  10. “Rules of Engagement”, “Better Off Ted” and “Modern Family” are the only modern laugh-out-loud comedies for me, so I hope Ted gets a Season 3, even if it is just for 13 episodes.
