Returning: Sesame Street

At last Australia catches up with Sesame Street's 40th birthday celebrations with special guest US First Lady Michelle Obama.

Many readers would remember Sesame Street‘s 40th birthday celebrations last November, with US First Lady Michelle Obama making an appearance on the show.

This episode will now air in Australia at 8.30am Monday February 1st on ABC For Kids (correction ABC1).

Series 40 focuses on nature education through the lens of a two year scientific investigation “My World is Green & Growing.”

Hugh Jackman has also just filmed an episode which will air this season, along with Debra Messing, Ricky Geravis and Matthew Fox.

Sarah Jessica Parker will even appear in “Waiting for Big”, a parody of Sex and The City (cue outraged Family Groups). Parker is waiting for “Big” so super Grover bring her things that are big, bigger and biggest. Naturally it turns out to be Big Bird.

  1. The “Waiting for Big” (parody of Sex and the City) segment wasn’t in the Australian airing of episode #4211-but this segment did air in the US.

  2. I reckon the ABC will do something for the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street first airing in Oz next year. After all, Bruce Paige is proud to claim that he started at the ABC, on the same day as Sesame Street starting on the ABC.

I wouldn’t mind a Big Bird Australian tour in 2011 (how long has it been since everyone’s favorite giant yellow bird has visited Oz)… Pity Rove quit, as the Elmo segments on Rove were quite entertaining.

  3. Hope there’s no outrage over the Waiting for Big sketch. Watching Sesame St as a kid, there were so many sketches that I had no idea were parodies on “grown up” shows. The reference just goes over kids heads and they just see it at face value.

  4. That doesn’t make sense David – ABC For Kids starts at 9am, so it can’t be 8:30am. Are you sure it isn’t ABC 1? It should really be on ABC 2 because that’s now the “home” of preschooler’s TV and having flagship shows on ABC 1 isn’t giving much of an incentive for non-digital viewers to make the switch.
