TEN unveils early premieres

By David Knox on January 15, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 78

TEN has revealed its programming for the week of January 31st which, as expected, unveils several of its key titles ahead of official ratings.

It includes The Biggest Loser, So You Think You Can Dance Australia, Good News Week, Burn Notice, House, Medium, and White Collar.

The Biggest Loser with new host Hayley Lewis is stripped at 7:30pm weeknights following The 7PM Project, while the line-up also includes the premiere of Ross Noble’s Australian Trip and the late-night return of Army Wives. Little else changes in the schedule so far, with 9AM Summertime also still in place.

TEN’s strategy in recent years has always been to launch key shows ahead of ratings and Seven will do likewise. Additional titles will no doubt appear once ratings resume on February 7th.

Ok well it’s your regional at fault, not TEN obviously. Shame, Dance was good fun. Their website will have full ep streaming.

  2. stephanie January 31, 2010 at 9:46 pm -

We get 10 all day until 7:30 and then it switches to cricket until about 11

  3. David Knox January 31, 2010 at 9:20 pm -

Not sure what channel you were watching. Loser, Dance and House all aired on TEN.

  4. stephanie January 31, 2010 at 9:08 pm -

I am so mad mad mad! Ten has been advertising the start of dance and house tonight (Sunday) and when we sat down to watch we have Cricket! I could pull my hair out and scream – How can they advertise these shows for months and do that – or is just that we are second class citizens in the country.

  5. Deborah king January 18, 2010 at 5:16 am -

I see there’s still no mention of Supernatural. I won’t be watching Channel 10 until they bring it back.

  6. Harry January 18, 2010 at 1:25 am -

I think TEN are diving into what will be a disappointing year for them.

  7. Rob B January 17, 2010 at 11:26 pm -

Don’t get too excited that Burn Notice is back on. This is TEN, remember!

  8. jacket January 17, 2010 at 9:42 pm -

    Wow, how unexciting!!!!!
I won’t be watching channel TEN again until they bring back Supernatural.

  9. jakevin. January 17, 2010 at 8:47 pm -

When will Seven resume airing new Bones episodes?

I assume it will be “after the tennis”?

Who’s with me to Protest Ten’s Decision to air the Season Premiere against The Australian Open Mens Final?

  11. Nick January 17, 2010 at 3:41 am -

Stop complaining about the 7pm Project. Otherwise Ten might put it on 3 times a night!

  12. Bela January 17, 2010 at 3:30 am -

Why is there hardly anything to watch anymore… I only like supernatural (best damn thing), psych, white collar and dexter, and a couple other shows which arent on this channel, it’s good that white collars back on, but i’d stop watching all of those shows while easily justified easily if you just put supernatural back on

  13. Stephen H January 17, 2010 at 1:35 am -

10 programming in general is the worst especially how they show such bias to a particular program yet contempt to US shows why do they bother having output deals with the US?

  14. AA January 17, 2010 at 12:49 am -

Good to see SYTYCD back early.

Has Ten given a new date and time for new The Simpsons?

  15. sillygostly January 16, 2010 at 7:55 pm -

Well, that explains why Ten were so keen on blowing off new episodes of Simpsons and Futurama so quickly as Loser and Dance are eating up a bulk of their schedule throughout the early ratings period, and I suppose they wanted to get them out of the way for the impatient fans out there.

The only thing drawing me to Ten of late was their animation schedule, Malcolm in the Middle and The Office, and their summer schedule has been one of the worst in recent memory. I have no reason to watch TV throughout the ratings period… as usual.

  16. Stephen H January 16, 2010 at 6:10 pm -

10 aired all of Army wives season 1 after Letterman about a year ago so hopefully they will air season 2. I wish GO could of brought the rights to this show and it would be especially good decision because they could do a special cross promotion with Vampire Diaries because Paul Wesley who plays Stefan Salvatore features in about 5 episodes in season 2 of Army Wives.

  17. Kim January 16, 2010 at 4:47 pm -

Great line up, Ten. You’ve justified my decision not to watch anything on Ten this year until you come to your senses and start airing some decent shows. There is no variety, it’s all boring reality shows, and I mean reality shows that are boring, and repetitive boring procedural dramas. I can see now how you justified taking a thrilling show like Supernatural off the air. It doesn’t fit in with your brand of bland.

  18. Jellyman January 16, 2010 at 2:01 pm -

i Have a Facebook Group called Bring Nicktoons and Disney XD to Australia.
Please Ten, don’t air Dance Australia on January 31?

  19. Luke January 16, 2010 at 12:38 pm -

I reckon that they may have a chance with this new 7.30 stripping of The Biggest Loser. Unlike most I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say that it might just work.

I wonder where they’ll put Glee when its season returns. Hmm.

  20. jensen January 16, 2010 at 11:55 am -

does anyone no when lie to me will return

  21. Jed January 16, 2010 at 11:46 am -

House on a Sunday, brave move, i actually think it’s a good move though. Had to try something new. And it now means i can watch whatever’s on Seven and record House. There were too many shows on Wednesday night to watch and record everything. Although i still need to buy and watch last season of House, cos i haven’t seen a thing of last season.

White Collar on Friday?? Not happy bout that, have to just record it now. Thursday instead of Medium would be better. Even Wednesday insetad of Brun Notice but i know there’s a lot fo Burn Notice fans on here.

  22. tasmanian devil January 16, 2010 at 11:33 am -

Oh dear, that schedule doesn’t look very promising. The only shows I’ll certainly be watching are Good News Week, which fits into my viewing schedule nicely now that 7 has axed Not Going Out, and probably the Ross Noble special afterwards. I can’t see myself watching The Biggest Loser as much this year due to the timeslot change, as my main reason for watching previous seasons was the lack of alternatives in the 7:00 timeslot. As for Dance Australia, 6.5 hours in a week is too much for a niche show and it just eats up the schedule. Where’s Talkin’ ’bout Your Generation going to go?

And if someone from Network Ten is reading these comments, if you insist on keeping The 7pm Project, slice the news in half and move it (Project) to 5:30pm, because it looks like the only half-decent timeslot available.

  23. ozinoz January 16, 2010 at 11:09 am -

It is good to see Burn Notice back in teh line up – just love Bruce Campbell. Pleased to see they are also sticking with Outrageous Fortune. Not teh same since Grant Bowler stepped out, but there is something about it (Antonia Prebble actually :) )

  24. vid January 16, 2010 at 7:11 am -

ten are headig for troubled times…..i think they will come 4th for the ratings this year. sbs may beat them.

  25. cronker January 16, 2010 at 3:22 am -

    David, could you please advise?

is the late night Army Wives the rest of season one that was pulled, or is it new episodes season two?

    many thanks

  26. Leigh January 16, 2010 at 3:01 am -

I think it’s a great idea to have Biggest Loser at 730pm, I like the idea of the later programs starting on the hour as the night continues, gives a chance to pick up more veiwers who have not liked what’s screening on other channels.. I think 9pm and 10pm hour long shows will do really well.

  27. bindi January 16, 2010 at 2:27 am -

so we have to wait till the biggest loser is over and masterchef starts to get new merlin. 10 will have to delay the dvd release yet again because they are taking so long to air it.

would have liked to see supernatural or SGU on friday instead of an ncis repeat.

  28. Tepee January 16, 2010 at 12:53 am -

Also: Burn Notice is too weak for Wednesdays, leave it for Thursdays where is was doing ok in late 2009 and save Medium for later in the year. Don’t know what a random NCIS rpt is doing on Friday. White Collar could go the way Law and Order did earlier this summer.

  29. Tepee January 16, 2010 at 12:49 am -

    Sun Jan 31
6:30pm The Biggest Loser. Season Premiere.
7:30pm So You Think You Can Dance Australia. Season Premiere.
    9:00pm House. Season Premiere.

TEN, do not do this. This will be smashed by the tennis. Why not air rpt movies on Sunday and premiere these shows another day?

  30. Bass January 16, 2010 at 12:38 am -

Friday and Saturday’s are still a mess!

  31. John Jackson January 16, 2010 at 12:38 am -

Hmmm.. out of all that I’ll probably just be watching Neighbours, 7Pm Project, bits of SYTYCD, Ross Noble, and the occasional David Letterman.

I do like Merlin, but haven’t been really watching the repeats as I’ve already seen them. I wonder when 10 will start airing the second series?

  32. buddy029 January 15, 2010 at 11:29 pm -

Oh my god, what are they thinking. The biggest losser will not work at 7.30pm. Oh dear lord get a grip ten. Put the 7pm project on ice, go with what you know works. Oh dear lord worst thing i ever saw. 7.30pm ill stick with other networks and give Biggest Losser a miss this year. It wont work at 7.30pm….

  33. Jellyman January 15, 2010 at 11:18 pm -

People Power will win in the end, at the moment please look at my Facebook Group called Bring Nicktoons and Disney XD to Australia and sign up as a Member so the more members we get, the greater the chances.

  34. Brodie January 15, 2010 at 10:02 pm -

If House wasn’t dead in this country already, it will be after its move to Sunday. Ten could not have chosen a worse night to air it on, especially with the premiere up against The Australian Open Mens Final.

  35. Harry January 15, 2010 at 8:51 pm -

Its not a bad schedule – Im happy they are getting through majority of the Dance Auditions in non-ratings, they get boring. Id probably have the House season return on Friday after the NCIS repeat and play a movie at 9.00 Sunday.

Im sure new NCIS will return on the 9th when Dance Auditions are done with. Same with NCIS LA and The Good Wife.

  36. Craig January 15, 2010 at 8:05 pm -

I watched S1 of Army Wives on W, what ep is TEN up to?

  37. josh January 15, 2010 at 8:00 pm -

get rid of the biggest looser, more of the office and master chef

  38. Dr_Rudi January 15, 2010 at 7:42 pm -

TEN – are you reading this ? We’re blogging. Really, shift Letterman to prime time. You won’t regret it.

Also, couls Ross Noble stop stealing Billy Connolly’s act from 30 years ago?

  39. ross. January 15, 2010 at 7:06 pm -

    Yeah, nevermind…I’ll RTFA now. Sorry.

  40. ross. January 15, 2010 at 7:05 pm -

10 just had a 2 or 3 minute Biggest Loser promo on.

It appears they’re going to be doing Master Chef style cooking challenges this year.

Any word on the time slot, David? What will happen to 7pm Project?

  41. Michael January 15, 2010 at 6:59 pm -

Don’t think I’ll be tuning into ten looks like the best thing is The Simpsons repeat but I have every season of it!

  42. Ryan January 15, 2010 at 6:49 pm -

@ aznfratboy – actually, last year House dropped quite badly from previous figures. It was rating under 1m for most of the season last year on Wednesdays.

  43. MR January 15, 2010 at 6:47 pm -

    Hate iy already
7pm will drag it all down again
too much SYTCD for week and odd times all week

  44. AA January 15, 2010 at 5:51 pm -

Has new episodes of the The Simpsons been rescheduled yet, David?

  45. AA January 15, 2010 at 5:38 pm -

And I suspect the daily edition of Australia’s Funniest Home Videos was to be a summer fill-in program before Two and a Half returns.

Also does anyone think 9 will air any new eps of Two and a Half Men soon enough?

  46. Ryano January 15, 2010 at 5:22 pm -

Why put your best stuff against Australian Open Mens Final?
Ten Fails at holding fire for effective audience impact.

  47. Nik C January 15, 2010 at 5:14 pm -

Why is White Collar on at 9.30pm Friday?

Ah well looks like Time Shifting will record my viewing of it later!

Glad it will be back soon! I liked the tiwst at the end of the last episode.

  48. Andrew B January 15, 2010 at 5:04 pm -

I’m guessing the 6.5 hours of Dance are so they can get through the all the lower rating audition episodes during a non ratings week. Things should settle down to more of a normal program the following week.

Interesting to note that the program running times each day for Loser are the same as Masterchef was. Loser will even have a masterclass this year.

Hopefully that week is the last week that Ten air late night 7pm project repeats.

  49. dance fan January 15, 2010 at 5:01 pm -

    is anyone showing SYTYCD USA?

  50. RichoTB January 15, 2010 at 5:00 pm -

Weird schedule, House on Sundays is worth a shot since its been failing on Wednesdays for around two years now. But why they’re persisting with the 7pm project is beyond me, its going to be absolutely slaughtered along with bringing down the ratings for Biggest Loser and SYTYCD. I expect next week we’ll see the return of NCIS:LA. But what of Modern Family and the Good Wife?

Looks to me like they’re burning off SYTYCD audition episodes so they can get to the finals early.

  51. tomothy January 15, 2010 at 4:38 pm -

    Way to much Dance.
House on a Sunday – Why!!! This show is plummeting in ratings, and they put it on the biggest night of the week?
Whats with all the 10pm start times. Everyone knows shows in AUS start on the 1/2 hour. This is not the US.

  52. Benjamin January 15, 2010 at 4:36 pm -

So in 2010, Sunday nights will be House vs. CSI or Underbelly vs. Bones.

Good to see GNW back!, but don’t bump it to 9.30pm & also bring back “Supernatural”!!. GNW & SPN worked very well last year!

  53. Alex January 15, 2010 at 4:34 pm -

Wake up Cannel 10! You dump the best shows on TV (e.g. Supernatural, Stargate) and then you program shows that wouldn’t stimulate bacteria on rotting fruit. Listen to your audience. I vote we all boycott channel 10 until they grow some, and say sorry to the lost TV show generation.

  54. angelsgal January 15, 2010 at 4:23 pm -

I like the scedule. Its still a non ratings week and Im assuming ten are hoping shows like Dance and Loser can boost there last week of summer and help promoting there full line up for Feb 7. As for Dance, buyten.com.au had Generation to premier Feb 7 which makes me think Dance will move to 8:00pm Wednesday and Elimination shows 30mins Thursday. They also had Bondi for Tuesday 9th. Medium will probably shift foward to 9:30 in week 2 and House will probably go 8:30 sunday out of Generation as House did well out of TGYH a few years ago, generation is simular to TGYH and House is also quite different to Underbelly. The Good Wife is set to premier Monday 8th Feb so i think it will go 8.30 and GNW at 9.30 plugging the hole that ten have on monday and thats the post GNW slot.

  55. Peter January 15, 2010 at 4:12 pm -

I guess with timeshift figures being added to the ratings this year, maybe TEN’s sunday lineup wont be whooped all that bad. A week later when timeshift ratings are added, the premiers could do well. Same with late night House and Medium.
I guess thats what TEN would be hoping for anyway…
    Now for seven and nine….

  56. Ruddeger January 15, 2010 at 4:09 pm -

Six nights in a row of Losers is a bit much.Actually one night a week is too much.

  57. Andrew January 15, 2010 at 4:05 pm -

The best eps are coming up for Outrageous Fortune from ep 10 onwards so I’m glad they are keeping it in the schedule! :)

Ten should pick up Chelsea Lately for late nights.

  58. Guy January 15, 2010 at 4:04 pm -

Well this is the worst thing TEN could do for Sunday night. It will be slaughtered by the Australian Open. TEN wake up to yourselves. You have also just killed the return of House. Wrong Wrong Wrong. If it were the following week i would have applauded them to moving it there but against the competition its just plain Wrong!

As for the rest of the week its what i expected except for Dance all week. That is show overload and i dont think it will do well at all. Then again i could be wrong.

7pm Project is a complete waste of space and needs to go. Its ratings will hurt TEN and until they wake up to themselves and realise this i hope it fails and fails miserably.

Fridays are different which is good.

  59. Belinda January 15, 2010 at 4:02 pm -

Is Ten almost up to date with Burn Notice?

  60. Jake January 15, 2010 at 3:56 pm -

Hoping The Ex-List & Psych can get one of those midnight slots like Army Wives the week after! Better than repeats of other shows, at least their new.

  61. ryan January 15, 2010 at 3:56 pm -

Bring on Burn Notice!!- best show ever, besides ncis lol

  62. Stephen H January 15, 2010 at 3:53 pm -

Far too much dance though my mum will be happy but good they are going to bring back Army Wives even though 12:30 is extremely late and they are keeping Outrageous Fortunes but FFS get rid of 7pm Project repeats.

  63. Garion January 15, 2010 at 3:50 pm -

Looks like I’ll be watching a lot less television this year if this schedule is anything to go by.

But TBL on Monday night better not run over time into GNW, then I won’t be happy

  64. David Knox January 15, 2010 at 3:46 pm -

Just to note I corrected one typo of a Neighbours rpt. New ep obviously.

  65. Rod January 15, 2010 at 3:44 pm -

That’s an awful lot of dancing… and bumping NCIS out of Tuesday 8:30? Sacrilege!

(but hooray for more Burn Notice!)

  66. Harry January 15, 2010 at 3:42 pm -

Why arent TEN airing new eps of NCIS? I hope new eps return on Tues 9th or else I’ll go mental!

  67. ryan January 15, 2010 at 3:41 pm -

get ready TEN! to get smashed at 7-7.30, will prob end up loosing the night just cause of that slot! fk off the loser show for god frikkin sake.

  68. aznfratboy January 15, 2010 at 3:13 pm -

Why oh why oh why do they insist with The 7pm project…? It really is awful, it will be pummelled against 2 and a half men repeats, give one of them contract, give them a late night show and pair it up with letterman, then at least people won’t be pi**y for Channel 10 delaying Letterman, who is by far the best late night show host right now, and nearly the best ever.

If they do that, I don’t have to see people lose weight… during primetime. Australia should be better than America at something… even if it is a bad thing.

Also, House on Sunday…??? What the hell is that? Does noone at 10 remember that like a year or so ago, House dominated the Wednesday 8:30 timeslot…?

Seriously… who is in charge of programming at Channel 10? He/she is the Australian equivalent of Jeff Zucker.

  69. Jellyman January 15, 2010 at 3:05 pm -

We want Ten to air Loser Four TImes a Week Instead of Six in One Hour to 90 Minute Blocks becuase quality Porgramming is being Wasted. Serioulsly!!!!!!!!!!

  70. Jellyman January 15, 2010 at 2:59 pm -

I Agree, Please Ten Postone the Dance Premiere for 24 Hours?

  71. luke January 15, 2010 at 2:53 pm -

ooh! it’s interesting that they have kept the 7pm Project and will be putting Biggest Loser at 7.30pm. I think that’s a great idea! I don’t like the 10pm Medium start on Thursday but hopefully it gets 9.30pm the week after.

  72. Jellyman January 15, 2010 at 2:51 pm -

Once Again, Ten has decided to go against the Australian Open, please make it the last?

  73. Jerome January 15, 2010 at 2:50 pm -

so TBYG isn’t going to sunday, i guess that puts it in a 8:30 slot somewhere else. and where to for the good wife?

House to Sunday is a strange move.

  74. Trent January 15, 2010 at 2:46 pm -

Great to see the Star Wars movies returning to television for another screening. After recently seeing Family Guy’s Something Something Something Dark Side, my interest in the franchise has been renewed. Maybe they might play Clone Wars movie too, but who would be excited about that.

Also, is it just me or is there way too much So You Think You Can Dance. I know its audition period but I could get bored. Has anyone realised that come two months time, Natalie Bassingthwaighte will be on two networks at once (Nine’s Underbelly and Ten’ SYTYCDA)

Considering the trouble that Ten has been in over axing shows over the summer, this schedule is probably as good as they could have made it. I’m guessing shows like Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation and The Good Wife will premiere after the SYTYCDA Auditions Week.

  75. DAN January 15, 2010 at 2:46 pm -

i wish ten would wake up and realize that the 7pm project is a failure and axe it and put the biggest looser on at its original time of 7pm because i am very afraid that up aginst sevens strong performing factuals the biggest loser will really be the biggest looser

  76. Johnson January 15, 2010 at 2:43 pm -

It’s a good line-up but not a great line-up. It seems Ten has not learned from 2009 when the second season premiere of SYTYCD was beaten by Australian Open men’s singles final between Federer and Nadal (which went down to the wire) and the one-day cricket from Perth. It looks like history will repeat itself.

  77. wamdue January 15, 2010 at 2:42 pm -

sorry im confused why is Mondays neighbours episode a repeat? I assume Neighbours is in fact as normal that week

  78. Earthquake January 15, 2010 at 2:42 pm -

I never got into SYTYCD, so after 7:30pm Tue – Thu Ten has lost me.

Bring back The Office and Animation Wednesday!
