The Office takes a holiday

Looks like The Office is checking out of TEN early. And that Malcolm kid is really wearing out the welcome mat.

Malcolm in the Middle is really wearing out the welcome mat on TEN.

A few amendments have come through for the week of January 24 which sees The Office out of schedule and a whole lot more of Malcolm. It also has a celebrity special, I Get That a Lot, which was first scheduled last March but never surfaced.

Tue 26
7:30pm I Get That A Lot (1 Hr Special)
“A one-hour special featuring stars that play practical jokes on unsuspecting fans in a case of mistaken celebrity. Working everyday jobs, our celebs confuse customers who cant decide if it’s the actual celebrity or an astonishing look-alike. Featuring Paris Hilton, Gene Simmons & Snoop Dogg.”

Other changes are as follows:

Wed 27
7:30pm The All New Simpsons (As Scheduled)
8:00pm Futurama Rpt
8:30pm The Cleveland Show
9:00pm The Simpsons Rpt
9:30pm The Simpsons Rpt
10:00pm Californication (final)

Thu 28
6:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 The 7PM Project
7:30 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
8:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt

and not forgetting more Malcolm here:
Fri 29
6:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
6:30 Neighbours
7:00 The 7PM Project
7:30 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt
8:00 Malcolm in the Middle Rpt

Whether The Office resumes in the final week of summer January 31 remains to be seen, but don’t bet your holiday house on it.

  1. Ten seriously needs to go back to the drawing board for a good 6pm offering instead of recycling old programming.
I am old enough to remember the days of the New Zealand version of Blind Date and the American Studs and those were awesome so how about a return to those times of the early nineties. We can only Imagine If Ten had done the right thing with Taken Out we would not have been subjected to Frankie Muniz garbage or friends or Bold and the Beautiful. If Anything Dump the 7pm Project and move the Simpsons there if they have to for the fans of Homer and Bart. You get your news at ABC or SBS at that time of day so make do with that or watch a late night news bulletin.

  2. i can’t Stand all this Frankie Muniz…he’s creepy looking :S

Accidentally on Purpose never made me laugh and maybe that’s the reason The Office didn’t rate as well. No one would wanna stick aruond through AoP :S Why they didn’t put The Office first I don’t udnerstand…or put it after Malcom seeing as it rates so high and see what happens :S but to remove it completely when we are So far behind is ridiculous. the rest of season 6 airs in the US in a couple of weeks; i’ll be getting it from other means as I have been for The Office since season 3.

  3. @Tepee

I’d argue no one should be happy that Simpson’s is getting 2 new episodes a week. The series hasn’t pumped out a decent episode in over ten years. It’s a shame Ten doesn’t show the episodes from the early to mid 90’s anymore, those are timeless and there’s always a new generation of kids that haven’t seen them or have seen them but are a couple of years older now and will be able to pick up on the dozens of subtle references that used to be finely woven into each episode.

  4. To toriwannabe, the act of “volume” fixing comes up quite often, but the reason they get away with it is because it is actually pitch control, not volume. It’s like all the bass is up during the show you’re watching and then when the ads come on it’s all treble and no bass, so it rings in your ears and forces you to hear it. You should definitely complain to the station and also to the Broadcasting authority.

  5. I already bought season 5 of the Office on Amazon and watched it over the hols. Soon i will just wait til these programs are available on dvd on Amazon and just turn free to air off during the year. The Australian networks dont really care about people who want to enjoy real tv.

  6. Notice how that Ten seems to have more repeats than new shows? They must because when they list shows, rather than put “repeat” next to the old shows, they put a “New” prefix on the new eps. New eps are the exception rather than the rule.

Oh, something else while we’re talking about Ten, why do they broadcast at such a higher volume than the other stations? And when the ads come in, I have to Mute the tv as it’s so loud!

  7. Looks like Channel Ten has found it’s flagship filler program. Malcolm is their version of 2.5 men (and 1 woman if you get the joke!). Now we wait for Channel Seven to do the same thing with HIMYM if they haven’t already!

  8. Diddums. No umpteenth repeats of edited 1990s eps of the Simpsons. Oh please, I love Malcolm in the Middle – so funny, and not as repeated as The Simpsons, which needs a break. Plus shouldn’t people be happy that they’re showing two new eps of the Simpsons and 2 repeats per week instead of 9 repeats? The Office was never going to last, but good on them for trying.

  9. Simpsons belongs in the 6pm slot. You can take away every other Simpsons slot away if you want, just don’t mess with the natural order!! Also, didn’t Ten make a point of emphasising the return of The Office as an act of good will towards the viewers? So much for that.

  10. The Office lost its spark after season 3, kudos to Ten for giving it a shot though.

Recently watched the 100th episode of HIMYM, it has lost something this season IMO. It started out strong but now it doesn’t really seem like the show’s going anywhere, and the writing/comedy has taken a sharp drop in quality. Again, the first two seasons of this show were great but I’ve found its gotten weary with age. That said, I preferred the 4th season to the third.

  11. The problem with 10 showing the office fans of the show have

    A) Already obtained the season 2 or was it 3 years ago (I still watch it on 10 btw)
    B) Know the storylines

The problem 10 has with it’s ratings

    A) It started showing the office from the middle of a season, people that are new to it have absolutley no idea behind the characters and what’s going on.
    B) Many stories in later episodes require earlier episodes to keep the flow

The smart thing to do would be to show it from season 2 (when they started airing it on Tuesdays) yes it would have been old but playing 2 episodes a week they would have caught up quickly.

What are the expecting it to rate over summer? It’s just shy of what 7pm project rates and I’m sure 7pm project costs allot more to produce and make. It is also a bad lead in to the office.

Promotion wise has been poor also. Like last nights episode “this is how he motivates staff” Hmm I think not. I would just use NBC’s promotions for the show from back then. They will lend them to you if you are nice TEN.

  12. Malcolm won’t do much better than the Office. Would it have been so hard for Ten to replace Accidentally on Purpose with a second ep of the office, given that normal programming resumes in like, two weeks? That way they get through the episodes they haven’t aired a little quicker.

  13. Shame about the office. Oh well maybe we’ll see it sometime soon really late at night. There was another ‘I get that a lot’ special that aired on ten somtime last year.

  14. Don’t Malcolm and the Office rate about the same anyway? they may as well just keep the Office atleast it is new unlike Malcolm. 10 really should be airing shows that don’t rate later at night like seven have done for years.

Look how well shows like Boston Legal, Scrubs and Family Guy have done in these later timeslots. Better yet they should be starting their 3rd channel though no doubt they will probably stuff that up as well.

  15. The Simpsons has been taken out of its 6pm slot?

Boycott time again. Everytime Ten does this they inevitably change things back.

The Simpsons repeats own 6pm and I don’t watch Ten without my 6pm Simpsons.

  16. Completely useless ten. Just bring The Office when they feel like it and take it when they feel like it.
The Office is a great show and people already watch it here just via other means…

    Oh well….

  17. @ CrAig – I have no high horse – I have seen the US Office and as I mentioned before find it to be an embarrassing pos.

Couldn’t care less if it was from US or UK, just care if it is entertaining and funny which it is not IMO, which I am allowed to have 🙂

If it was as wonderful as you all keep saying why the hell is AOP rating better than it?

  18. @ themolk
ummmm… by ‘You’ I meant the general public, obviously the weight of a show isn’t resting on your shoulders. Unless you have a couple of hundred ratings boxes in your lounge room

    @ Goonies
I’m sorry but you are waaaaaay off the mark. Whilst I am a big fan of the original, the US version is a fantastic adaptation… with both wit and outstanding performances as you so crave.
I think that if you popped down from your high horse (ie everything the Brits do is superior) and gave it a shot, you’d love it….

  19. @CrAig – quite the opposite. I watch it whenever it’s on. I prefer the US version to the UK version. I’m disappointed that Ch10 have treated it so poorly, particularly after making noise about how they wanted to “support” it. Pfft.
