Toni Collette wins Golden Globe

Toni Collette wins a Best Supporting Actress award for United States of Tara. Other wins to Dexter, The Good Wife, Grey Gardens, Mad Men and Glee.

Toni Collette has won a Golden Globe award as Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for United States of Tara.

“The first time I came here 15 years ago I was on the loo and missed my whole category!” she said.

Collette was the sole Aussie to win, with both Simon Baker and Rose Byrne missing out.

Ricky Gervais opened the show by reminding everyone he created The Office, not Steve Carrell and chose to plug it.

“I’m not used to these sort of vieweing figures. Let’s face it neither is NBC.”

Within another 3 minutes he said “Let’s get on with it before NBC repalces me with Jay Leno.”

He also made a wisecrack at Kiefer Sutherland’s expense when he suggested scenes of Jack Bauer thumping people wasn’t necessarily in the script.

Presenter Felicity Huffman struggled to remember her rehearsed welcoming the HFPA President.

  1. Well Done to Toni Collette – I was hoping she would win, its great that she did! Well Done to the guy from Dexter, although Im not a fan of the show, he is brilliant on the show, as was John Lithgow.

  2. Congrats to Toni….
I looked at all the other shows names and…. I haven’t seen any of them, not my taste at all, but I wouldn’t miss Tara for anything!

  3. Thank the gods 30 Rock didn’t clean up again, shows that the Globes judges were actually paying attention. The drop off from the first two season to the third has been huge, I’m not at all excited about 30 Rock anymore. I don’t know if Glee deserved to win, personally I’d have gone with the under appreciated Office but I guess Glee is the hot new thing and got recognized for that.

Michael C. Hall Delta’d it. John Hamm or Cranston (not nominated) were better performances but I’m happy Dexter gets to win something because I can’t imagine the show going on much longer without dropping off.

  4. What a year at the Globes! Michael C. Hall was sorely overdue a globe for his work on Dexter. And props to John Lithgow for showing everyone just how scary a mofo he can be.

I love 30 Rock but Glee was certainly the deserving comedy breakout show this year. I’m sure Tina didn’t mind being beaten by a cast of singing, geeky teenagers…

And what about Julianna Margulies taking out Best Actress for a TV Drama?! She beat out some weighty competition!

  5. Love 30 Rock but also love Glee and I’m glad the former hasn’t hogged the limelight for 3 years in a row. Congrats to Toni who was brilliant in Tara for winning in such a tight category.

  6. Great to see Toni Collette win also John Lithgow and Michael C. Hall for Dexter. And of course Grey Gardens as best TV movie and Drew Barrymore.

Best of all Lauren Graham was there and not many could miss that bright pink dress!
