Yep, MASH is back

By David Knox on January 21, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 20

Looks like not much will change to Seven’s late-arvo schedule this year, with MASH and Deal or No Deal on their way back.

Both return in the week of January 31st, with a one hour “Great Deal Special” episode of Deal at 5pm Monday February1st: “In a special one hour Deal or No Deal, Andrew O’Keefe helps a contestant make the deal of a lifetime in an episode filled with surprises and secret deals.”

MASH reruns return from 5pm Tuesday February 2nd.

Come Dine with Me (UK) fans should note its return to 3pm weekdays from Monday Feb 1st (S4E1)

Update: The One now replaced with various Extreme celeb specials. 2pm Mon-Fri.

I could be wrong but there are episodes of Full House,Family Matters and Hey Dad that would be a better choice for the 5pm all are which are long discontinued that Channel Seven could show if you must have an older comedy.Saved by the Bell the New Class from the last decade is another option too.Anything has got to be better than Mash Reruns.

Oldies and Kids are the only ones at home at that time of day MASH screens. The rest of us work or go to the fitness centre or are on our way home.
Blame the program classification laws for what restricts 7 from showing what people really want to watch.I would love nothing more than having American Dad or Family Guy or even Clueless on at 5pm or any other nineties/21st century comedies one cares to list.
For the true MASH fans just go buy the box sets and be done with it and give the rest of us some modern programming.

True MASH fans would have the DVDs as they would be able to watch the complete show ad-free. Parts of the show are cut because they show more ads these days.

Maybe it is time to try something different – there are a ton of 30 minuteTV shows from past years that they could air.

yayyyyyy thanks David, Come Dine with Me back, that’s brilliant.

In the grand comments tradition of “we’re never happy” I’ll just add:
Now, if Ten would show the rest of Hell’s Kitchen UK instead of randomly leaving it at 4 episodes, I’ll be happy…

    @ Kuttyswood.

…realise there’s more to Australian than just Brisbane!

lol in fact I read somewhere, I think Herald Sun, that MASH has airred so many times, Channel 7 can air them free. I can’t get into MASH no matter what, but you have to still respect the show, can you name a any show, and I mean TV show, not some special like MJ death, that got more viewers in the states than all the superbowls? That’s right! 106 million US viewers watched the finale in 1983! That’s how insane MASH was. Hate it all you want, but there’s a reason Channel 7 keeps airring MASH

    1) It’s free
    2) There are still a fair few fans out there who love the show.

I don’t think Channel 7 can offer us anything else that is as efficient for them as MASH.

Jake: Lots of Brisbane people care, and cared about Extra.

In fact, on the Courier Mail’s article on the Shak axing we got a reminder that Brisbane won’t forget Extra, and the way the axe was handled.

This is what 7 has to tap into. December 2010, will be ten years, after Seven promised a second shot at 5:30, after Local Edition’s axing. Ten years on, the Local Edition lesson, still hasn’t been learned by 7 Brisbane management, and is repeating itself in Deal’s slow decline which is a purely Brisbane issue.

    @Patrick

MASH was made so long ago there was probably only a minutes worth or less of ads for each break. So now with our longer advertising times, programs get hacked to pieces… happens with a lot of them.

I think the only people watching TV at 5pm are oldies and kids and thats why shows like MASH and Antiques Roadshow are on at that time because the oldies love them so much… my dad is one of them!

    Boring.

I do believe that every 9 out of 10 Kuttyswood posts relate to his odd theory that Gold Coast viewers are leaving Seven at 5.30 because Nine axed Extra and Seven (shock horror) didn’t immediately switch around their own schedule to insert a magazine advertorial at 5.30.. Really, Kuttyswood, let it go. Nobody cares.

Well why would 7 get rid of MASH repeats if it still rates?

It’s cheap filler material and still has a loyal fanbase. But what gets me is 7′s brutal editing of it – whole scenes are cut just to fit a timeslot.

Very strange to me considering MASH was made for a 30 minute slot and yet 7 still cut it !!

Why not something different for 5pm.

  13. David Knox January 21, 2010 at 1:01 pm -

As does Deal. So News starts bang on 6 for affiliates. Hot Seat on Nine is the same.

  14. mikeys January 21, 2010 at 12:59 pm -

The show must go! MASH is the only show on TV which starts 2 or 3 minutes early – each and every day – what is with that?

  15. koverstreet January 21, 2010 at 11:05 am -

Look MASH is a classic even though it never really appealed to me personally. But please Seven try something else! Surely even MASH fans must be sick of it by now.

MASH is timeless. It’s like having your dog around, yeah it has fleas but you love it anyway.

  17. Kuttsywood January 21, 2010 at 10:37 am -

tomothy: Move to Brisbane. People stopped watching Deal up here months ago.

  18. Morgan January 21, 2010 at 9:12 am -

    OMFG

How many times have they played that show?

    Give it a rest!!

  19. Andrew January 21, 2010 at 8:56 am -

thanks for the update re: Come Dine With Me. I’ll set the video!

  20. tomothy January 21, 2010 at 8:45 am -

Good to see they are brining back Come Dine with Me (UK) with a funnier series. As I said before, it was doomed to fail if they started from S01E01, becuase it was a more serious show then, and not overly enjoyable.

I hate MASH and Deal or No Deal with a passion. I wish people would stop watching this complete cr@p. Even watching Deal or No Deal with the sound off is just as bad. Why is it that people don’t dress nicely to be on TV anymore?
