258,000 viewers agree with David Leckie

258,000 viewers agreed with Seven CEO David Leckie that Cougar Town is a s*** show.

At least, that’s how much the show dropped from the first week to the second.

The Seven comedy still won its slot but it took a dive from 1.34m to 1.08m. The White Room similarly slipped, down to 678,000 allowing So You Think You Can Dance Australia / The Biggest Loser to win on 914,000 / 838,000 while Getaway had to settle for 833,000. Those numbers are low all round, with viewers clearly unhappy with choices. Is that why The Big Bang Theory is up to 299,000 on GO!?

Law And Order: SVU took 902,000 beating How I Met Your Mother’s 890,000 and 20 to 1‘s 887,000.

Hot Seat (521,000) beat Deal or No Deal (512,000) and Today (364,000) pipped Sunrise (354,000) for the third time this week -can it hope to take out an elusive weekly win?

UFC Wired
was up to 96,000 on ONE (NB: UFC 110 airs this weekend) but The Circle has slipped to 44,000 for TEN.

Nine Network won the night.

the show is a piece of c.r.a.p.. More skanky women than Sex and The City has and that’s saying something. Go away old moles.

and this is the reason I have seen up to ep 15 because all our FTA channels are so unreliable.

  3. koverstreet February 20, 2010 at 5:10 pm -

@ julian – for the time being, but Today is slowly but surely overtaking Sunrise. It’s only a matter of time before it’s winning nationally on a regular basis.

  4. KFed February 20, 2010 at 2:36 pm -

The Circle is pretty decent, Ten needs to do a lot more publicity for it and, as stated here, do something about the timeslot.

  5. bettestreep2008 February 20, 2010 at 10:47 am -

I agree that the Circle should be put on at 9am.

By 10am – viewers have settled in to Kerry Anne or that Sunrise show.

It’d be a shame if Denise Drysdale is once again taken off our screens – she is a great talent!

  6. julian February 20, 2010 at 2:47 am -

@Kuttsywood Olympic weeks are excluded. So Sunrise shall continue winning week after week.

I still think they need to push forward HIMYM to an earlier time or a different day so it doesn’t clash. Perhaps Mondays at 7:30pm and have it as a double episodes.

Cougar Town just doesn’t work for me. It’s trying too hard.

I actually like The Circle (minus the informercials). I don’t find any of them annoying and I find everyone in good humour.

  8. Kuttsywood February 20, 2010 at 12:11 am -

The Circle is on the road to getting test pattern figures. The only solution is for Ten to relaunch those cheesy local morning programs.

  9. Stephen H February 19, 2010 at 11:04 pm -

Atleast they will play out the episodes Justin unlike some of our other commercial channels and now with 7two it is likely to be played out quicker I mean they need something to play once 24, Lost, Mercy, Stargate Atlantis and Heroes have finished their episodes.

  10. Taz February 19, 2010 at 10:53 pm -

258,000 viewers may agree with David Leckie…1.08m obviously don’t.

  11. koverstreet February 19, 2010 at 6:19 pm -

@ justin – your right it will drop off further as more and more people discover how bad a show it is. I predict it’ll drop to about 900k ish then stupid 7 will bump it and it’s ratings will plummet further until finally it’s off to 72!

From what I have seen of The Circle I definitely think it deserves more that 44,000… Everyone seems pretty natural and the adverts are fine… Maybe no one knows about it because it starts at 10 and others have settled in to kerri-anne or morning show… It’s time to move it to the 9.00am slot and see how it does there against the other competition.

Last night was the first night I watched the white room and really enjoyed it although I feel the sparseness of the studio lets its down, TBYG, Rockwizz and Spicks and Specks all have bright entertaining backdrops, also i dont see the need for two hosts, both could do with replacing.

Re Cougar Town: I think there was quite a bit of hype from the US regarding this show and a lot of people i know have just downloaded it, the US are up to episode 14 for gods sake.

If they didn’t want to play them on TV at the same time as the US why not utilise the internet and allow their whole catalogue of shows to be shown online. That way they still can get the advertising revenue from the show and stop people downloading from the US, I for one would just watch them online.

  14. MCP February 19, 2010 at 5:40 pm -

The whole night itself was a low rating night so I wouldn’t read into it.

  15. aznfratboy February 19, 2010 at 4:20 pm -

    258,000 morons, period.

  16. Justin February 19, 2010 at 4:19 pm -

Bouges. I’ll tell you how long until seven do that – Never. Home and Away is on at 7. White Room is crap and doesn’t deserve an 8:30 timeslot and Cougar Town is rated M and therefore can’t be shown before 8:30.

  17. PD February 19, 2010 at 4:06 pm -

678,000 for The White Room sounds about right. I was one of the few people who didn’t mind the first episode but finding that the four awful contestants from the first episode are all regulars was too much to bear.

  18. Craig(Buzz) February 19, 2010 at 3:32 pm -

Cougar Town may have dropped off a bit but still has very healthy numbers

  19. ducko February 19, 2010 at 3:28 pm -

If that’s the critia for a s*** show , then there are many s*** shows on television.

  20. dean February 19, 2010 at 3:23 pm -

Thursdays always generally rate lower than other nights of the week because of Thursday night shopping – there are a signficant amount of workers and shoppers who can’t watch TV Thursday nights since they’re working/shopping til 9pm.

  21. Bogues February 19, 2010 at 3:01 pm -

How long until Seven change the Thursday schedule to HYMYM at 7pm, Couger Town at 8pm, and the White Room at 8:30pm (with more adult content)? The Amazing Race has started in the US, so that might be slated somewhere on Thursday nights too.

  22. Jed February 19, 2010 at 2:47 pm -

Please move How i met your mother to 7.30. There’s currenlty nothing on at 7.30, at 8 i watch Spicks and Specks, and then have to flick at 9 because i’m recording SVU for the mother but want to watch HIMYM and IT Crowd. Yet 7.30 is crapville, cos as much as i love Eamon, White Room is crap.

  23. Justin February 19, 2010 at 2:37 pm -

Watch out Stephen H your precious channel 7 might pull the pin on Cougar Town and you might not ever see it for 2-3 yrs like Sam Who.

I dont think a drop of 250k is what seven were expecting. Expect the drop to continue.

  24. Secret Squïrrel February 19, 2010 at 2:36 pm -

Perhaps 258,000 people gave up “Cougar Town” for Lent!

@Trent: Yeah, BBT could be GO!’s 2.5 snores.

  25. Russell February 19, 2010 at 2:05 pm -

    Let’s keep things in perspective.
Most shows drop week 2. Almost all shows.
And CougarTown was still the night’s #1 show in 18-49 and #1 entertainment programme overall, on what is generally a night with low viewership.

  26. 2.5 men February 19, 2010 at 1:16 pm -

i found the second ep of Cougar Town a bit boring. Just like many other people, one bad episode could mean no viewership for the next episode

  27. Stephen H February 19, 2010 at 1:14 pm -

The White room probably hasn’ helped especially as Dance starts at 8:00 so people may just stick to that however given the hype for Cougar Town people should be able to find it on its own the real test will be next week if it drops significantly again we know it won’t be a hit.

  28. Verity M February 19, 2010 at 1:06 pm -

The white room is such a shoddy show

  29. SMAC February 19, 2010 at 12:58 pm -

i love this show and it gets better and better as it goes along

  30. Ronnie February 19, 2010 at 12:39 pm -

I hope those poor advertisers ask for their money back! Maybe it’s time to retire?

  31. Tony February 19, 2010 at 12:36 pm -

Cougar Town is ok. It’s humour is in the Scrubs’ vein, but less surreal. More importantly, what’s happened to The Middle? I liked that show!

  32. Matt F February 19, 2010 at 12:03 pm -

Get Tony Martin & Ed Kavalee on The White Room. It’s the only way to save that show.

  33. ozinoz February 19, 2010 at 12:01 pm -

I saw the first one – not good, not bad. Have yet to see the second episode, but I think it will be on the PVR. the problem is that the stations over hype new shows, without allowing it to find its own place and when it doesnt meet the expectations of the viewers (and seriously, what show has lived up the the station over hype) they fall to what would have been its correct viewer level, but that si seen as a failure.

here is a hint – Stop over-hyping the living hell out of every new show you purchase.

  34. Craig February 19, 2010 at 12:01 pm -

White Room – at least they won’t need to re-paint the studio when it gets axed.

Cougar Town – I hope it stays, maybe they should have run it over the summer to reduce the downloads, I hope it levels off at 1 mil per week.

  35. bob February 19, 2010 at 11:54 am -

apparently only 4 eps of the white room have being taped

  36. Kuttsywood February 19, 2010 at 11:47 am -

Under my calculations, where you must win minimum of three days a week to win a week, Today’s won this week, and broken the “how long is the Sunrise streak?” streak.

  37. Trent February 19, 2010 at 11:45 am -

Go! should play a lot more of The Big Bang Theory. It could definitely work in Nine’s favour.

  38. tomothy February 19, 2010 at 11:40 am -

The White Room on 678,000. I can see the dropping of an axe!! Yay!
