Academy Awards replay

By David Knox on February 22, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 11

As previously noted Nine will again screen the Academy Awards live to air on Monday March 8th for the second year in a row.

It will air at 12:30pm via satellite from the US, preceded by a half hour Red Carpet special hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson. Last year both sat in a Sydney studio commenting on fashions with Alex Perry.

The live 3.5 hr event will continue until 4pm. This year it is also a public holiday in several states -perfect excuse for a party.

It will be replayed later that night at 9:30pm but with one hour less.

This year the Oscars are hosted by Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

They will also screen live to air on Movie Extra, available to all Foxtel subscribers until March 8th.

Can Nine please edit out all the acceptance speeches? they’re the boring bits so maybe an hour less edited verison may turn out to be better.

Yes, the evening replay was definitely edited last year.

Not quite. Last year’s live telecast on Nine was uncut. As noted here the evening edition is 1 hr less.

I would never watch this on Channel 9.

Luckily I have had foxtel so no need, but when Nine chops out some awards to cut the show down.. sorry that just isn’t on.
That’s right you heard me right, from past years experience, channel nine doesn’t air all the categories, or they haven’t in the past. A couple years back I don’t think they even aired best foreign film which is a major category.

It’s not fair…no public holiday in NSW. And it’s such perfect timing for one.

I’m recording during the day then holding my annual Oscar Party that night – helpful, because we can (a) start it at a decent time (6pm) and (b) we can fastforward through the ads and through the boring speeches (once we realise that they won’t be worthy of the drinking rules…)

With Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin hosting, it should be a hoot!

Looks like I need to “work” from home that day!

    @ JulieS

Actually, South Australia have a holiday too. Downside, it’s the final day of Womadelaide, and Adelaide Cup Day, and the Future Music Festival is on; in addition to Festival Fringe activities – and well, frankly, if the weather is half-decent why would you be inside at lunchtime ? Personally, I’ll be at Womadelaide and so no chance of seeing the replay either.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge cinema fan – but this schedule doesn’t work for me. That’s what recorders are for.

As far as I know the only states having a public holiday on March 8 are Victoria and Tasmania. So this will be good for them but not the rest of us.
