Last year it was a Pay Per View event hosted by Joan Rivers, but this year the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade will air live on Arena, at 7:30pm on Saturday, February 27th.

No word yet on just who is hosting the broadcast, but all will be revealed soon.

There’s one night in the calendar that belongs uniquely to Australia. Every year thousands fly in from overseas to experience it … from New York stockbrokers to Tokyo office ladies. It’s a night when our biggest city is brought to a standstill. When hundreds of thousands take to the streets. Nothing can prepare you for the outrageous glitz, glamour, satire and sass of the most famous event in the global gay calendar -the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. Now in its third decade, Mardi Gras is a massive celebration of diversity that delivers its message with humour and pizzazz. Arena’s coverage will immerse viewers in the spectacle of the parade.

  1. I’d rather watch it on telly than actually be there. The crowd is not what it used to be. Too many drunken screaming out of control teenagers and yobs !

  2. Yeah it’s crazy not having it on a widescreen channel, at least it’s not PPV. Last year they replayed it a few weeks later on one of their widescreen channels but can’t remember which one. I’ve written to Foxtel trying to persuade them to move it to a different channel.

  3. Great news and great work Foxtel!

On top of all that – Aurora Community Channel is also running a 3 weeks of special Mardi Gra programming from Feb 21st, including short films and a new series of Queer TV.

    Camp TV all round!
