Australia’s Got Talent to become the new Idol

Update: First Kyle, then two Idol producers and Sony BMG, join Australia's Got Talent. Seven also confirms Brian McFadden to judge.

The “Idolisation” of Australia’s Got Talent continues with word that two producers from the TEN reality show are now working on the Seven show.

FremantleMedia Australia produces both shows, and while there is still no clear outcome for Australian Idol, its Executive Producers Greg Benness and Suzanne Mitchell have shifted to become consulting producers on the Got Talent audition tour.

That could also suggest Idol is increasingly unlikely to return this year given auditions for the TEN show normally begin in April. Both talent shows would overlap behind the scenes.

Benness and Mitchell look set to be working again with Kyle Sandilands, their former Idol judge, who will be joined by Dannii Minogue and Brian McFadden.

TV Tonight understands no decision is final yet on Idol‘s return for the 2010 year, but the signs do not bode well.

That’s enough for Seven to beef up its show with plans to become the country’s foremost talent contest in Idol‘s expected absence.

Update: Seven confirms Brian McFadden will join Kyle Sandilands and Dannii Minogue as judge. TV Tonight also hears Idol record company Sony BMG has signed with AGT….

  1. hey, i just think i dont really like some acts. they should catergorise them like when acts like that double-jointed guy come on they have signs saying freak shows or sumfink like that cos i got grossed out Completely and i’m serious i’ve got this double-jointed friend who totally creeps me out but this has gone to far

  2. when brian Mcfadden made the nasty comment about “being able tofind some young talent that looks good, instead of having to look at thses middle aged ones”in reference to Susan Boyle I was disgusted.I can only think that there is some professional jeolousy there. That lady has a true gift.A lovely voice, and we all can’t be beautiful!Trust me looks fade, even with surgery…lol…take the voice!

    Nasty nasty boy

  3. Channel 10 should bring back the X factor and Channel 7 in the past always had ago at channel 10 for Idol, I can’t wait to see it comes back and bite them in the butt.

  4. I think based on all that its pretty safe to say that Idol won’t be back.

Could 10 retry the X Factor???

Sure they got burnt but that was mainly by their own doing.

Call me skeptical but I don’t 100% believe these ‘diamonds in the rough’ that BGT has a habit of finding, re: Subo and Paul Potts, it just seems too good to be true IMHO

  5. and tell me how is idol going. people are sick of this rubbish they call talent finding shows. 7 are ignorant too think they aren going to find the next susan boyle

  6. I am very surprised they’ve ditched Tom Burlinson as a judge. He was very good, very caring towards the contestants and has decades of showbiz experience.

If Ten were smart, they would most definitely rest Idol this year. Their timing in the latter half of this year is out of whack because they are broadcasting the Commonwealth Games, and given that Idol 2009 tanked for its entire three-month run last year, they should rest it, tweak it, recast the judges and reintroduce it into their line-up in 2011 or even 2012.
