Chris Meloni eyes SVU exit

Chris Meloni has confirmed he will walk away from the role of Detective Elliot Stabler after season 12 of Law & Order: SVU.

The Courier Mail appears to have  a bit of a scoop with Christopher Meloni confirming he will walk away from the role of Detective Elliot Stabler after season 12 of Law & Order: SVU.

The show is currently in its 11th season on NBC.

“I think 12 years is enough, a good number,” Meloni told The Courier-Mail recently.

“The writers will have fertile ground to figure out how to arc him (Elliot) out to another place – whether it’s this world or the next.”

Meloni said he was interested in pursuing theatre as well as producing and or acting in “guerrilla-style sleeper” films when he leaves.

But co-star Mariska Hargitay has indicated she isn’t ready to step aside just yet.

Both Meloni and Hargitay were holdouts for salary increases, prior to signing on for the current season -a fight they eventually won.

Production on season 12 begins later this year.

The eleventh season returns to TEN at 9pm on Thursday.

  1. Sorry David you were right. Its nice to see some of the more respected sites acknowledge the source while others such as Perez Hilton just steal straight from the story. I suppose you need some modicum of talent to be able to delevop your own material.

  2. seems strange how meloni and hargitay would reveal this to an australian newspaper before the american media, also you would think it would be nbc or the producers who would make this announcement.
something just doesn’t seem to add up to me!

  3. I think the story originated from the NyPost but its a sad story. I have enjoyed SVU right from start and the chemistry between Mariska and Chris has been one of the main reasons.
