Freeview sponsors the Logies

TV loves TV as Freeview becomes a sponsor of the 52nd Annual TV Week Logie Awards.

The Free to Air lobby group will use the industry award night to boost consumer awareness of digital TV and Free to Air programming.

Freeview CEO Robin Parkes said Freeview and the Logies were a perfect fit,

“Freeview is the home of all the free-to-air channels and the Logies is an Australian icon in the eyes of Australian TV viewers so it’s only natural that Freeview should become a partner.

“We’re very proud to be so closely associated with the Logies and are looking forward to a fantastic awards celebration this year,” Parkes said.

“We’ll be making best use of our Logie partnership to educate viewers that to continue to get free-to-view TV and see the great stars and content that’s being recognised at the Logies, they need to switch to Freeview digital TV,” Parkes said.

Freeview will have a presence in TV Week magazine and will soon announce soon a Freeview Logies promotion.

I have attended, covered and watched back the tapings of the KCAs for several years and I stand by my comments.

Exactly David: Organisation, is what the Logies lost, when the Gold Logie runoff vote was first devised. If the “Race For Gold” were eliminated and the print magazine segment phased out progressively (as well as developing a mobile (i.e iPhone/iPod based) voting platform) you’d have a much more exciting run to the Logies, with a Gold Logie, anyone can win, after all the online voting system has made the “Race For Gold” moot. (whatever moot means…)

Such a class divide here! Only people that feel the need to shell out $40+ a month for subscription television want to kick Freeview. As Freeview adds more channels in the future, I expect your collective inferiority complex to grow even larger.

Me? I’m a commoner, so I’m quite happy to watch FTA television… I also drive a 1988 Holden Astra.

Voting and wins aside, the KCAs have been spectacularly staged and organised.

Kuttsywood, I have disagreed with you before, but you may have actually lost the plot on this one. The KCAs are a shambolic (and tedious) embarrassment year after year.

This year’s Logies will probably be the lowest rating ever, thanks to Freeview. After all, the best awards show in the country isn’t with Freeview, yet it is decided by the same audience as the Logies.

The Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, is much better than the stuck up, stodgy, pompous Logies, at least, even a non winner goes away with a smile (and some slime) on their face.

Is this an effort to combat Foxtel’s big marketing push that starts soon to coincide with the start of the footy season?

Better still, Free TV Australia should take over the running of the Logies and have TV Week as the sponsor. The awards certainly need an injection of credibility.

Too bad the PayTV shows will win the top awards.

I guess some of the brilliant dramas and lifestyle shows that were foxtel exclusives now have no chance….
….not that the logies are useful…
…and I guess they have the equally important ASTRAS…

A pointless group sponsoring another pointless group? It’s like the chocolate tea pot company sponsoring a paper sail boat in the Sydney-to-Hobart!

so does this mean no more of those excrutiating Garnier cross promotion pieces that we’ve been subjected to in previous years?
