Having it on the Ten's main channel is perhaps recognition that not all people have digital but this is at odds of not showing the IPL and crickets Champions League (even the final) on the main channel. Perhaps the Superbowl is too big not to have it on the main channel.

An American sport for American people. Reports last week showed it second to the Champions League in the most watched sporting events world wide of 2009, but with just 106m watching, but with 98.7m of those being US viewers, it just shows how little interest there is outside the USA in the sport.

I don't really get why people here expect to see the ads too - they're showing the Superbowl, not the commercials, and I don't think anyone would expect to see US ads in any other US import - or say Canadian ads during the Winter Olympics, so why would the Superbowl be any different?

I'm pretty sure that the super bowl isn't under the anti-siphoning laws because it's not classified as a major sporting event. That's why I was saying it was ridiculous to air it on their main channel as well as digital.

The Superbowl will be watched by nearly 100 million people in households alone, so that doesn't include bars, restaurants and back alleyways... you don't think CBS will advertise their own shows? Or the show proceeding it - Undercover Boss? We will see some ad for CSI and we will go ... Wait WTF is Channel 10 advertising Channel 9 shows?! WTF does 9/8c mean...? It is a pity though you'd think at $3m for 30 seconds, CBS would let Australian's see the American creativity when it comes to advertising...

I agree with Paull 110% that there is no need to show it on 3 channels but once the rules change hopefully it would be restricted to just 1 in the future. I think onehd has a place it just needed to start in 2013 when they had the rights to more high profile sports plus not having to show on the main channel and rodeo for example could also start then we manage with out it this long why not for another 3 years. instead of taking up so much space now by airing a lot of content on all three channel 10 staions could of given fans of shows they treat like crap a go like 7, ABC and to a lesser extent 9 do.

@ johnsen and Daniel G: the NFL may be bigger in America than the afl is in Australia, but the NFL is not that popular in australia, it's not a national sport,
we have no teams representing the super bowl and you'd be hard pressed to find an NFL football club to join.

Ultimately though, I'm interested in seeing the audience share ten gets, I'm will to be proved wrong.

@Paull: the Super Bowl on Ten is probably for the benefit of analogue viewers. (Maybe next year it can be run exclusively on One as an incentive to switch to digital?) Anyway, during the game, One SD will most likely carry that loop usually used for AFL games that says 'the currently-scheduled programme is on One HD and Ten (SD)'.

And don't worry if you can't view the ads on-air. They'll definitely be available to watch online, whether legally (youtube.com/adblitz, spike.com/superbowl) or illegally (can't go into detail due to Comments Policy).

@Paull: I think it's a good decision to show the Superbowl on Ten's main channel. The event is several times bigger than the AFL Grand Final and had been shown on the main channels of ABC and SBS for the past decade.

@Bre Saxs. It's Indianapolis Colts v New Orleans Saints. I'll be cheering for the Saints.

Sucks it's delayed in Adelaide. I thought the whole point of a dedicated sports channel was to show live sport.
