    Its the NAB CUP….

  2. Allie February 22, 2010 at 7:52 am -

@Trev. Totally agree. AFL will never be truly embraced by NSW and QLD. The ratings reflect the abject lack of interest in it here in NSW. Unless the Swans are winning, there is zero interest in AFL here in NSW. It’s like the situation with the Storm in Melbourne; they are ignored unless they are winning. The decision to introduce a second AFL team into Sydney is folly, particularly considering that it will be a western suburbs based team, an area where Rugby League rules.

  3. Trev February 21, 2010 at 9:11 pm -

@ Ryano. If this was a football thread I could and would go on ad nauseum why NSW and QLD wont wear AFL, but as it isn’t I wont. As the year progresses the lack of interest will be obvious by the non existent ratings in those two eastern states…..enough said.

  4. R February 21, 2010 at 8:48 pm -

@ Kuttyswood – no need to wonder – he posted his thoughts in the Sunrise thread at MediaSpy

  5. ryan February 21, 2010 at 6:41 pm -

@ trev: that what i meant, football, (afl) as you would have noticed the second team is afl.

  6. Ryano February 21, 2010 at 6:24 pm -

    @Trev
How can you “hate” a sport. What did the AFL ever do to you?
I dislike the NRL greatly, for its encouragement of thuggish, violent behavior and of course it’s evil News Corp owners.
But I certainly dont “hate” it.

  7. Harry February 21, 2010 at 4:02 pm -

Ryan, its only the NAB Cup. Im a diehard footy fan and I couldnt care less about it.

  8. Harry February 21, 2010 at 4:01 pm -

    aznfratboy,

It doesnt matter if MC doesnt pull the exact figures as it did last year – as long as it actually boosts TEN shares from what they currently are. It will rate very highly, it broke history books in its first season, people who didnt watch it first time round will surely tune in for the second.

  9. Trev February 21, 2010 at 3:12 pm -

Not so Ryan, we love our football, simply hate AFL as the ratings demonstrate.

  10. Josh February 21, 2010 at 2:58 pm -

What was the reality show Millionaire that rated 30 million?! More than the population of Australia by about 8 million. I know there’s only 3,000 boxes to make an estimate on but that’s a pretty huge margin of error for the extrapolation of the raw ratings data… I’ve heard of a quiz show called Millionaire but it didn’t rate that well. Please explain.

  11. ryan February 21, 2010 at 2:22 pm -

what happened to the afl? shocking numbers!! im surprised that the afl is putting a second team in sydney when they hate football.

  12. aznfratboy February 21, 2010 at 1:31 pm -

MC won’t be the ratings juggernaut because reality TV shows go old very quickly, especially those that air 5, 6, 7 nights a week, look at Millionairre, in it’s debut season, the 3 nights it airred, every night got an average of 30 million each, which has never been matched really. Two years later, it was off TV altogether.

Reality TV shouldn’t go beyond 2 nights a week, Survivor has 1 hour a week, Idol only had 2 one hour airrings a week, Biggest Loser has one two hour airring a week, Dancing with the Stars has three hours, 2 hours on Monday and 1 hours on Tuesday in the US, all these are pretty much the top shows for their respective networks.

But look at TEN, they’re airring Biggest Loser 5 6 nights week? Dance 3 4 times a week? They will do the same with MasterChef because they refuse to air scripted TV shows in primetime for some reason.

If TEN airs MasterChef once a week, one hour only, like they did with the celebrity version, then it will rate well, but when it’s on 5 nights a week, it means that the 10 contestants wll have to cook 5 times a week, how many different meals can they make? After a fortnight it will become a broken record..

  13. Harry February 20, 2010 at 9:36 pm -

    aznfratboy,
Recruits – rated very well. It had a lot to do with Masterchef and thats when we’ll see it on Tv again Im sure.
Modern Family – TEN havent even set an airdate on it, of course its had no promotion.
MC – it will rate for TEN. Very high.
Lie To Me – It might not be doing well in the US but it rates well in its timeslot for TEN, and Im sure it will pull consistent figures when it returns.
NCIS LA – It did have its own night (Wed?), it never dropped below 1 mill. (Maybe once or twice)
Merlin – rated well before MC. (1.2-3m)
I dont know where you’ve gotten you’re facts from but those shows you stated were TENs strongest peformers last year.

  14. Harry February 20, 2010 at 9:23 pm -

TENs shares will obviously boost when MC 2 begins. It will be the ratings juggernaut it was.. why wouldnt it be? People will watch. They need to get rid of The 7PM Project, its passed its used by date – clearly people arent interested and its not must see TV.

  15. damo February 20, 2010 at 7:58 pm -

10s shows are in the toilet and nothing will get them going up in the ratings. a lot of their shows are past their used by date or just crap. tbl is crap, neighbours is well past it’s used by date. their main programs are reality shows and people are sick of them. it’s time for 10 to realize this

  16. Jerome February 20, 2010 at 5:54 pm -

Janey, sorry if i wasn’t clear; when i said “it’s not like 9 who still have a lot to come” i meant 9 have not launched their 2010 lineup yet due to the olympics and/or just holding shows off till week 4. whereas tens lineup that they have now is their actual lineup. and the fact that they barely have anything rating well now is only going to turn into a worse problem when they have extra competition from 9.

  17. Kuttsywood February 20, 2010 at 5:35 pm -

I’d love to be Adam Boland right now… First weekly loss, in how many years, and what does he say about it?

  18. koverstreet February 20, 2010 at 5:18 pm -

@ janey – I’m a huge fan of 10 but really most of those shows except MC and maybe NCIS LA don’t really do much ratings wise. “Lie To Me” deserves to rate 1m+ but it doesn’t sadly.

Nine have RPA,Sea Patrol,Underbelly,Hey Hey,CSI,Rescue Special Ops,60 Minutes,Domestic Blitz et al still to come.

  19. Allie February 20, 2010 at 5:13 pm -

Neighbours had 479,000 viewers nationally last night????????????? Oh my God, that is shocking!!!!!!!!! I don’t watch Neighbours, but I can only assume that either the current storylines aren’t resonating with the audience, or it has simply had its day and needs to be canned, which Ten won’t do, because they need it to satisfy their local drama content requirements.

LMAO at 4.000 viewers for the AFL in Sydney last night. We just ain’t an AFL town up here. League still has the football stranglehold on the hearts and minds of New South Welshmen.

aznfratboy, excellent analysis of Ten’s current lineup. They have serious problems this year. I’d hate to be a Ten programming executive at the moment.

  20. aznfratboy February 20, 2010 at 4:15 pm -

    @ Janey

MasterChef: it will get eyeballs, but won’t be the ratigns juggernaut it once was

Merlin: It was being burnt off on Saturdays, when a show is on Saturday and it’s not a sporting event, it’s screwed, this isn’t the 70s, where All in the Family could air at 4am and people would still watch it.

Modern Family: Despite it being probably one of the best shows of the 09-10 American TV season, Channel TEN has had zero promotion for it.

NCIS LA: Fair enough, but they’re not going to get their own night yet, meaning it’s heavily dependent of NCIS.

Lie To Me is on the verge of cancellation, it’s preceeded by House, Monday’s top show in the US, and ti still struggles, granted it goes up against 2.5 men and Big Bang, it still shouldn’t lose half of House’s audience (theoretically)

Bondi Vets: Really? Ten is insistent on expanding their already redundant Bondi franchise?

Recruits: That got ratings? Granted I am very thankful for our police defending civilians, I’d much rather them focus 100% of their time on catching bad guys rather than getting hurt or killed whilst speaking to the moronic cameraman.

Glee: It didn’t really rate that good, despite all the promotion it got, but then again, I guess it is advertiser friendly, and will get the 16-39 and 18-49 demo’s watching.

  21. ompman February 20, 2010 at 4:02 pm -

silent witness best show on tv is 9 buying that to

  22. Janey February 20, 2010 at 2:42 pm -

Jerome, Ten still have Masterchef, Merlin, Modern Family, new NCIS LA, new Lie To Me, Bondi Vet, Recruits, new Glee. What do Nine have besides Underbelly that they haven’t already shown and is definitely going to do well for them?

  23. vrom February 20, 2010 at 2:24 pm -

I lol at the fact only 4,000 watch the AFL in Sydney.

I wonder what the Today numbers would be after the Winter Olympics. See if they can sustain this weeks win over Sunrise.

  24. Jerome February 20, 2010 at 1:05 pm -

ten only had 3 shows over 1mil all week. and this is their proper shedule. it’s not like 9 who still have a lot to come. ten are in a big hole

  25. Jarred February 20, 2010 at 1:03 pm -

Silent Witness is continually up near the top on Fridays. Funny that cause ABC beat Channel 10 last night, Channel 10 has serious problems, Neighbours was very low.

Seven and Nine are fighting up near the top trying to vow for viewers of there respective sports broadcasts. Nine has cricket, olympics, horse racing and Seven has Football and V8’s. A very intersting battle. Very low ratings for the Football last night considering it was a 1 point thriller.

  26. gerry February 20, 2010 at 12:05 pm -

Today show wins again. :) Guessing it’s partly due to the Winter Olympics. Man, Sunrise have pulled the claws out. On the news scroll on Sunrise, it says:
“the Cash Cow is back, and you don’t have to answer the phone to win.”

Obviously attacking Today’s Great Cash Giveaway.

  27. JDen February 19, 2010 at 7:09 pm -

If 30 rock is moved to prime time it’s just gonna pull numbers similar to what the office did in summer. The ratings prove that most TV veiwers would rather watch trash like two and a half men. By the way it would be interesting to see what two and half men would pull in if it was in a half ten timeslot.

  28. David Knox February 19, 2010 at 6:21 pm -

    Sorry Ryan!

  29. ryan February 19, 2010 at 6:17 pm -

any idea when ten will bring back new eps of ncis l.a?

  30. ryan February 19, 2010 at 5:16 pm -

Great to see dance hold its viewers on an elimination night, also bout time loser jumped, really the best eps on the biggest loser are tonight and weigh-ins.
Svu was awesome last night! i was glued to the screen and man that ending was crazy! i cant believe she stabbed him in the neck.

  31. tasmanian devil February 19, 2010 at 5:07 pm -

ID login is a great idea as it solves the problem of identical names.

@Stephen H – There aren’t enough episodes of Big Bang Theory for it to sustain a weeknight timeslot. People would just lose interest.

  32. ryan February 19, 2010 at 4:29 pm -

@Blake: LOL!! you must be desperate

  33. Goonies February 19, 2010 at 4:07 pm -

Ten seem unable to create one decent show at the moment, what makes you think they have the ideas for 5? And I am a ten ‘fan’ !

    Login fine by me David.

  34. Blake February 19, 2010 at 3:49 pm -

    @Goonies RE: Lyn

Lyn is the best thing to happen to Neighbours. The longer she stays, the better.
(P.S. Lyn is attractive for her age)

  35. Kuttsywood February 19, 2010 at 1:52 pm -

Tommo may be onto something. Five different programs (eg. something light for Mondays, Tuesdays/Wednesdays a bit macho, Thursdays something girly and Fridays, something to make people go TGIF!) may be the solution, and give Ten a chance to build a program, certain people are attached to.

  36. Seymor Smith February 19, 2010 at 1:43 pm -

The White Room is very awkward television. There is no need for two hosts, especially when only one of them in talking for an entire segment. The graphics look bad and are overused and usually unnecessary. I think the problem is the games which do not lend themselves to banter or discussion. I don’t blame the people on the panels but it does all just feel very lame.

  37. Tommo February 19, 2010 at 1:20 pm -

Perhaps Ch10 should try at 7pm what the ABC tried at 6.30pm about 5 years ago. Then, the ABC tried 5 new shows (one for each weekday) at that slot. They tried how the quest was won, the pet show, talking heads, beat the chef and collectors.

From this the ABC found talking heads, collectors and cook and the chef (which developed out of beat the chef) were 3 long-term prospects for their troublesome timeslot.

So, rather than replacing 7pm project with just one show, how about five initially?

  38. Nick February 19, 2010 at 12:05 pm -

It would be interesting to see how the breakdowns went for Cougar Town into HIMYM. I really didn’t see much promo for Mother this week, and it poos all over CT. Speaking of poo, The White Room will be under 550k next week easily.

  39. David Knox February 19, 2010 at 11:45 am -

Don’t forget new Amazing Race is now back in the US. White Room would probably go to 9:30 if it moved.

  40. vrom February 19, 2010 at 11:42 am -

Seven’s gotta change its Thursday line up. The White Room’s gotta go, and…

    7:30 HIMYM
    8:00 30 Rock
8:30 Cougar Town (not that Ill be watching)
9:00 Thank God Your Here (R)

Great excuse to get such a quality comedy like 30 Rock out from the dredges of Late Night Monday into the fore of Primetime Thursday. :)

  41. damo February 19, 2010 at 11:21 am -

the fta rating for the olympics might be down, but they don’t take into account the amount of people that would be watching it on foxtel

  42. Allie February 19, 2010 at 11:14 am -

I watched Cougar Town last night, it was pretty stupid and nowhere near as funny as the premiere episode. I’m not particularly surprised by the viewer drop off, this usually always happens with very heavily hyped shows. I expect Top Gear to have a similar drop off.

  43. bigkev February 19, 2010 at 11:05 am -

The White Room is rating worse than dance Your Ass Off……

  44. sam February 19, 2010 at 10:41 am -

SVU was excellent last night – a great show i have missed a bit recently , but when you look at the rest of the garbage on TV all round then this is a standout….

  45. Stephen H February 19, 2010 at 10:22 am -

Surely Family Guy firgure is average over the 3 episodes because under 300,000 seems really low? This show use to get high 400,000’s or more only last year and it had a fairly poor leadin then. Prehaps Go should give either Seinfeld or Fraiser a rest and put an episode of Big Bang Therory on everynight? Then on Sunday put 1 Big Bang Therory on and give Christine or another comedy a try at 8:00.

  46. chk chk February 19, 2010 at 10:20 am -

ouch for cougar town, what a drop!!

  47. koverstreet February 19, 2010 at 10:14 am -

Yup as I predicted Cougar Town has dropped off..by 300k.

And The White Room looks to be on the way out.

  48. V February 19, 2010 at 10:09 am -

Btw ID login cool with me.

  49. V February 19, 2010 at 10:08 am -

Biggest loser is on too many nights a week. They should just have the Masterclass which is shown on friday night and condense the rest of the shows into one or maybe two episodes, like they do in America.

  50. Jarred February 19, 2010 at 10:05 am -

7pm Project’s numbers were the lowest for the week last night, getting smashed by competitors, either a shake up needs to happen or axing.

The white Room didn’t rate very well for it’s 2nd week, everyone is very robotic on that show and they had pretty much the same guests as last week.

Getaway was also quite low, usually it’s up in the millions. Overall, Thursday was quite a flat night for TV when you look at the numbers, surprising I must say.

Any chance you could include the top shows in 18-49, David? It would be interesting to give your readers info on both total people and demos, which are both equally important in the ratings results.
