Cancer battle for TV doc

Dr. John Tickell, who appeared on Celebrity Overhaul, has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Dr. John Tickell, who appeared on Celebrity Overhaul, has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

The 65 year old doctor and motivational speaker suffered a seizure on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne last month and was rushed to hospital. He was due to start work on a new lifestyle program for the Nine Network just days after the cancer was diagnosed.

“It is a big shock but the doc is in great spirits and everyone is confident that his lifelong devotion to health and fitness will hold him in great stead for the treatment ahead,” spokesman Sean Anderson told the Herald Sun.

Tickell has visited over 100 countries to study the habits of the longest living, healthiest people on earth. A published author, he was also the creator of the Hyatt Regency Coolum International Resort and Spa in Queensland and the Heritage Golf and Country Club in the Yarra Valley of Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Masterchef judge Gary Mehigan yesterday underwent surgery to repair and rejoin tendons and muscles in the thigh and knee, which were ruptured after he slipped in the car park while leaving the show’s Alexandria studio on Wednesday night.

  1. So very sorry to hear about Dr. John – such an inspiring gentleman, I wish you the best for a speedy recovery and come back to TV very soon and publish more wonderful books – I wish you and your family well, you can do it Dr. John.

  2. If it was not for Dr John Tickell I don’t think I wld have my 35 yr old son with me today. I was very reluctant to go back to PANCH when Adam was 13 weeks old at midnite. But John referred me to Dr John Hunter who waiting on my arrival as he was a new Paedeatrician there. Things went on from there. My thoughts are with John and his family and I only hope with Gods speed he can overcome this hurdle. He has done and acheived so much during his career and I have some of his books. You are a blessing John and I never forget your name when I speak of Adam as a baby and his illness.
I wish you a very special recovery and I hope things go well for you, after the recent loss of my own special Dr at Whittlesea very suddenly I wonder why these things happen to the people who do so much for the society
