COPS L.A.C. cast complete
Veteran actors Roy Billing, Gary Sweet and Denise Roberts have all joined Channel Nine's new drama COPS L.A.C.

Roy Billing, Gary Sweet and Denise Roberts have all joined Channel Nine’s new drama COPS L.A.C.
The series, which focusses on “the fast-paced working life and complicated relationships of a diverse range of uniformed cops and plainclothes detectives” begins shooting in May.
Gary Sweet will play Superintendent Jack Finch and Denise Roberts is cast as Inspector Diane Pappas. The two veteran actors join Kate Ritchie as Detective Senior Constable Samantha Cooper and Martin Dingle Wall as her partner, Detective Senior Constable Rhys Llewellyn. Tom O’Sullivan stars as Senior Constable Nathan Holt, with Ria Vandervis as Senior Constable Roxanne Perez, along with Kelly Paterniti as Probationary Constable Priscilla Smith and Graeme Squires as Probationary Constable Daniel Vandermark.
Roy Billing is Senior Sergeant Graeme Sinclair and Damian de Montemas is forensic expert Matt “Matilda” Hilton.
Nine has released more details on the show, first revealed by TV Tonight last November:
These police officers working in a busy Local Area Command are the new frontline of law and order. The territory of COPS L.A.C. covers the inner city, the harbourside and the eastern beaches of Sydney, from lowlifes to high society and everything in between. Their brief is to fight and control crime on their turf. From shoplifting to murder, small-time drug deals to major organised crime, these cops see it all every day.
At the L.A.C. dedicated officers work and play side-by-side. They are passionate cops on the beat, the first ones at the crime scenes; savvy plainclothes detectives marked by their gut instinct and tenacity; naive recruits uncertain if they’ll make the grade; daring undercover officers flirting with danger; ambitious superintendents juggling politics with policing; and forensics experts with hi-tech toys.
It’s a competitive, pressure-cooker environment where the line between professional and personal relationships is easily blurred, and it takes plenty of grit, grunt and humour to get these cops through the day. Theirs is a tough and unpredictable job where some succeed beyond their wildest expectations while others fall by the wayside.
Jo Horsburgh, Head of Nine Drama says, “We are really excited about COPS L.A.C. It has great scripts, a fantastic cast, and all the ingredients for another exciting Aussie drama series from Nine.”
Significantly, the series will be produced in-house by the Nine Network, which hasn’t been attempted since Canal Road.
It will screen later in 2010.

Kate and Martin must be getting sick of each other by now, this will be the 3rd time they have been partners. Sally & Flynn in H&A, then Judi & Les Kane in Underbelly and now this.

Nice to see the cast are using the actual new police uniforms of the NSW Police in the promo shot. All can be purchased at a Target near you.
It looks like an Out of the blue or Breakers cast actually , rather than a cop show.
How are actors supposed to have variety in roles to play if they keep only playing cops or detectives or special detectives in the same recycled format.
Good encouragement for the actor to try in America if its so dull here.
With the other failed cop shows recently instead of taking that as a hint instead they just invent more !!
How can any network executive at Nine think this is a good idea?
Beggars belief. And producing in-house like Canal Road? Didn’t they learn anything? They don’t have the skill set to do it. Special Ops is a soapy mess trying to be all things to all people – and this sounds the same, without the rescue. I predict the entire Nine drama offering is in big trouble this year – except for Underbelly which will rate, because it’s raunchy, not because it’s any good.

So we have Sally & Flynn fighting crime? and Tom Nash turns up too?
Is this really a serious show or some quirky halfbreed?
What we need are more original Australian comedies!

People seem to be more critical of Nine’s dramas then they are of Seven’s or Ten’s. Whilst I am not keen on another cop show, the truth is a cop show done well is popular with audiences. This probably explains why there are so many,
I don’t like the name but the cast looks like its a good one. In fact, all Aussie dramas currently in production or about to be produced have impressive casts

Let’s not get carried away. While it’s valid to have a reaction to the show’s pitch, negative or otherwise, it’s a bit hard to criticise the scripts unless you have read them which Ms. Horsburgh has….

Yeah the 90’s cop shows can’t be beaten. Thank god for Hallmark on Foxtel.
Anyway, Gary Sweet, I hope he doesn’t go down in flames. He was great in ‘The Circuit’ – poor Gary, you do one cop show (Police Rescue) and you never escape it!

So, it’s beat cops? Sigh. I would much prefer a return to Stingers – one of the best and most underrated Aussie dramas ever IMHO. But I’ll give it a go. I agree with everyone here that we have more than enough cop shows right now.

Agree with JJ, Blue Heeleres and Water Rats were great shows. I’m loving watchign Blue Heelers again and would love to see Water Rats back on screens. Murder Call was also a good series.
This doesn’t sound like anything special though. Local cops, big woop. Rush has the tactical response, City Homicide are homicide detectives, Water Rats the water police, Blue Heelers set in a couhntry town. But this is like Neighbours with cops.
Sounds Ok and I like the cast too, but we already have have City Homicide and Rush along with overseas Police-Forensic-Cold Case etc Dramas, making this just another addition,
The timeslot ch 9 chooses will be interesting for COPS L.A.C.
