Doctor Who: Opening scene

The BBC has released the opening shots of the next Who season, starring Matt Smith.

It’s certainly an exercise in viral marketing, but with a show like Doctor Who, at least it’s worthy of it.

The BBC has released the opening shots of the next season, starring Matt Smith.

No hints now, you can see it for yourself. The series premieres in the UK on Saturday, in the US on April 17 and Australia on April 18.

Matt Smith was also a guest on last week’s edition of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. There are clips at Blogtor Who including a peek at Episode 6: Vampires In Venice.

  1. I’m just surprised by the major continuity error in this clip – the last we saw of the Tardis, as it began falling to earth at the end of ‘The End of Time Part 2’, all its windows were broken. Yet now they’re suddenly whole again? Odd.

  2. @Mark, bit of the old regeneration crisis. Perhaps he thought he was safely on the ground and stepped out or fell out during the whole exploding console.

  3. @Rhys

I understand the whole ‘suspension of disbelief’ thing but comes across as a cheap thrill without any real sense of danger. I just hope this isn’t any indication of the type of episodes in store. I’m sure with Steven Moffat at the helm it goes in a different direction.

    Still I can’t wait!!

  4. @Ren Apparently he’s going to be clumsy, which is a good thing compared to The Tenth Doctor striding into a room, all airs and graces. And you’ve got remember it is a show that’s basically aimed at younger viewers and older. You can’t expect everything to be proper. New Doctor, New Companion, New Executive Producer, New Who.

  5. Well if Captain Jack can hang onto the TARDIS in ‘Utopia’ all the way to end of the universe, I think the Doctor can hang onto the edge too! If they’re the opening seconds, one has to wonder how he fell out of the TARDIS in the first place!?!

Can’t wait – premieres on Easter Saturday in the UK though.

  6. Ren, it’s likely that most regular viewers know by now to adopt the ‘suspension of disbelief’ mode whilst watching Doctor Who. For those that don’t – wow what a trip!

  7. Looks a little…. silly! Are we expected to believe the doctor is able to hold onto the ledge of the Tardis that is spinning wildly like that?

I hope it’s not a return to killer garbage bins and farting aliens…
