Jane Badler joins Neighbours

An inspired casting move as cult-villain Jane Badler from 1983's V gets set to strut her stuff as a baddie in Ramsay Street.

Not much detail on this one yet, but it’s a ripper idea…

Jane Badler has landed a guest role in Neighbours.

The American-born actress, who has lived in Melbourne for 20 years, is best known for her role as rodent-eating alien Diana in 1983 show V.

She will now join the cast of Neighbours as “super-bitch” Diana Marshall (nice synergy with the first name) for a six week run.

A spokesperson for Five in the UK revealed that Badler will begin filming her scenes this week.

Her episodes will air in Australia in June.

Badler, who enjoys something of a cult status thanks to V, spoke to TV Tonight last month, “I’ve got my music thing which is all happening, but as far as the acting it’s been really difficult to get jobs in this country. So somehow it doesn’t kind of translate in Australia. Maybe I need to move to New York or something.”

Not anymore! And never mind about making this a “guest” role please, TEN. Lock it in as permanent!

  2. I think it’s a superb idea – Jane Badler is an amazing actress & will fit the “superbitch” role beautifully! And of course, I’d like to see her in the new “V” too in some capacity…

  4. This is terrific news. Neighbours are in dire need of new blood (not to mention decent storylines), so hopefully this marks a change for the better. I am a bit annoyed that it’s only a six week run, so hopefully they’ll extend her contract!

  6. I love Jane Badler – I think she’s a great actress.

    Definately have her on the show with big shoulder pads for sure! She’d make a great villainess on it – although in real life she’s a very lovely lady, good luck to her.

  7. She was also in Cleudo, as Miss Peacock I believe. She is in a couple of upcoming movies too according to the IMDB, and I heard she was being considered for a guest spot on the new V too. So… wow, score one for neighbours!

  8. She was also in the Mission Impossible series remade in Australia in the late 80’s. Good on her in getting the gig. I might actually watch some of Neighbours to see her in it.

  9. This is great news, really looking forward to seeing Jane on Neighbours. How hilarious if she turns up in Ramsay Street in a red lycra bodysuit with shoulder pads. Although if she starts eating rodents from the gutters of Ramsay Street I might have second thoughts 🙂

    On that note I must say, the New Age “V” is missing something… I haven’t seen one rat or parrot guzzled down by a Visitor yet??

  11. Exactly! Make her a permanent cast member, and let her do V too. She could reprise her Diana character as the Supreme Commander of all the V’s.
    She is a undervalued and underused actress.

  15. When Jane was doing the promo rounds and mentioning she didn’t get an local work, I hoped someone would give her a gig. Good on Neighbours for being the ones to pick up the ball! Hopefully the character will work and she can stick around. Love it.
