Leaders debate: Guide

By David Knox on March 22, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 16

These days everything old is new again: Hey Hey, The Block, Bert at the Logies and now “The Worm.”

Nine will return “the worm” for the live televised debate between Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott on their proposed healthcare reforms tomorrow.

Nine will screen it from 12.25pm AEDT with Tracy Grimshaw at a studio audience made up of 100 non-committed voters giving their verdict afterwards plus expert analysis from Laurie Oakes.

Meanwhile Seven News will present a live broadcast hosted by Chris Bath. Seven’s coverage will include expert analysis and feature live reactions to the debate from Australian voters with the return of the “Polliegraph”. The Seven News special will air commercial free from 12.30pm.

TEN is also airing a one hour broadcast from 12:30pm.

ABC1 has National Press Club from 12:30pm.

All times are AEDT.

It probably explains why there was no Dr Phil today and how Ten were using an Old Everybody Loves Raymond Episode to fill the timeslot.Off the topic a little what happened to Oprah.

What a load of crap that turned out to be. Now I know why Howard didn’t want the worm. Who ever sourced those so called “uncommitted” voters deserves to be fired. When one of the “uncommitted” voters (who had just gone on a rant about how great Rudd is) was questioned by Tracy about how committed he was, he said 70-30. I don’t particularly think that supporting Rudd 70% is “uncommitted” at all.

I’m watching the debate now, and it is So bias! Every time Kevin opens his mouth, the ‘+ and -’ meter goes up, and every time Tony talks, it starts going straught down. This is so pathetic. Why dont they let individual Australians make up their minds as opposed to a bias audience sitting in front of the 2 leaders.

Why are they having this debate in the day, it should be on in primetime so most people can watch it

luke w, I can give you ABC NSW news headline right now……”Tony Abbot beats Rudd in showdown” Thats already been decided and yes nsw abc does refer to abbot as “Tony Abbot” and …yes Rudd has no first name. watch for another little puff piece starring tony abbot to appear on 4 corners in the next 4 weeks,,,,,,,in nsw anyway

It’s times like this I really love my IQ. Have told it to record the 7 and 9 coverages for different opinions and bias.

Ahh in times like these, I wish Channel 9 would at least air Ellen & The View during their late night slots (or on Go!).

Interesting Nine have given it to Tracy. Who had it last time – think it was Ray. Nine are certainly building Tracy’s profile with all her interviews and now this – she certainly deserves ACA becoming a bit more upmarket – would do Nine’s image a whole lot of good.

Guess it’ll be Nine for me tomorrow if they’ve got Tracy and Laurie then.

“What does Seven mean by “polliegraph”?”

A polygraph is a lie detector, it draws a line that looks very similar to a worm.
I’m guessing that the “polliegraph” is an exact copy of the worm with a different name, original eh?

CNN uses the worm too, Jon Stewart hates it.

Hmm, not only will this be a fight between Abbott and Rudd, but the networks as well. Ill be watching Nine. Very hard to beat Laurie Oaks and his expertise in politics. Bu im tipping Seven might just pip the rest, seeing that they are the number 1 news network.
