Morning war: the battle for Ipswich

By David Knox on March 2, 2010 / Filed Under News 14

Tuesday marks an important day in morning television.

It isn’t just the first day free of the Olympics, but it marks the return of Kerri-Anne to 9am, which could impact on The Circle. At least TEN’s new show got a few weeks under its belt to help establish itself.

Meanwhile in the war between Sunrise and Today it also means there are no more coding issues in the Brisbane market from tomorrow, which Seven insiders commented had aided Nine’s new show. After losing two weeks to Karl and Lisa, Kochie and Mel won yesterday with 377,000 to 351,000.

Tomorrow the battleground turns to Ipswich in Queensland when both shows are due to air live from the same town, as Ipswich celebrates its 150th birthday.

Today, which has $500 cash for the best sign, will be at D’Arcy Doyle Place, while Sunrise will be auctioning off the ute from “Utegate” for charity from Brookwater Golf Club (pictured). But will one show bother to acknowledge the rival competition? Somebody needs to use the line “this town ain’t big enough for the both of us.”

Today, which recently added Magda Szubanski’s weight loss battle to its regular line-up, will be at Burleigh Point, Burleigh Heads on Thursday.

The first show to move permanently to Ipswich will win this war!

To quote NRL commentator and all round good bloke Gus Gould, no, no, no, no, no.

We don’t need the likes of them in this part of the fantastic sunshine state, among other things they’ll probaby have a whine off about us not having daylight saving.

Help Virginia [ABC2 New Breakfast], where are you? save us

How come there’s a story for this but there wasn’t when both shows were in Adelaide on the same morning?

How appropriate. Bogan television live from the town that inflicted Pauline Hanson and her bogan ideals on an unsuspecting Australia.

What are the ‘coding issues in the Brisbane market’?

I wonder if either of these shows will bother to ever show live news during the mornings to perth…a lot of things can happen in 3 hours! – 2 in winter :)

Madame Tango, I would have thought Ipswich would embrace any event that distracts from what the majority associate with the region – a certain flame-haired fish and chip proprietor…

Meh, Shame ABC’s News Breakfast aren’t coming. Pack of w*nkers those commercial morningers

Oh heck – why does this area of the world have to be in the middle of the televisual turf war???
