Nine scores ratings week

By David Knox on March 14, 2010 / Filed Under News 17

The Nine Network has won the week in ratings without any Olympics boost.

Nine won with a 29.7% share over Seven’s 28.8% and TEN’s 19.8%. The ABC had 16.4% and SBS 5.2%.

The Nine Network also won all 3 key demos: 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54.

Nine’s win was helped by the return of NRL on Friday night, and a public holiday giving Two and a Half Men a big boost in Melbourne. Seven is yet to add AFL to its mix along with its own new footy shows.

In digital shares GO! was 3.4%, 7TWO 3.1%, ABC2 1.3%, ONE 1.0%, ABC3 0.5% and SBS TWO 0.4%.

Nine won Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday leaving Seven with Sunday, Tuesday and Saturday. This week TEN beat ABC on Friday and Saturday, including finishing second on Saturday thanks to the NAB Cup final.

Nine was first in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Seven taking Adelaide and Perth once more.

Top show of the week was Two and a Half Men on 1.58m viewers.

Bi drop for Top Gear from the preliminary numbers.

Do we have demo results (anyone)?

Top Gear got 1.3 – well that was on you Tues ratings report.

You’d hope the NRL is keeping track of all these numbers and bring them up at the next negotiations for the television rights. Nine has treated rugby League like garbage for a very long time, as well as under paying for the rights for over a decade now. If the NRL grow a pair and sell the rights to another channel, it may be enough to tip the scales in favor of seven.

Melb is traditionally higher for most shows, but aside from an especial preference for 2.5 Men, I have reported earlier that the public holiday helped lift Monday night even further.

I’ve never really paid much attention to the numbers, but why are the Melbourne viewer numbers so much bigger than Sydney’s? In some cases the difference is staggering, e.g 2.5 Men: Syd: 340,000 Mel: 636,000. Is this normal?

    NRL got 9 da win

Another great week for 9. I’m sure they won the key demographics as well. The crap that is Cougar Town continues to fall, thank god….

ABC beat TEN on Monday, according to your Week 11 link

  9. Stan March 14, 2010 at 7:40 pm -

I think Nine is loving Top Gear to death with all of their double episodes across all of their channels. If they’re not careful, then it will die young like they did with Gordon Ramsey.

Although, Two & Half Men is working out for them…

  10. Mark March 14, 2010 at 6:57 pm -

Why watch channel nine news?? It doesn’t have anything special…

  11. Craig March 14, 2010 at 5:02 pm -

ETA – so Top Gear lost 295k viewers ep 1-2 and another 238k for the 3rd ep, I wouldn’t be surprised if it dropped below 1 million this week.

So much for being the number one show, currently in 20th this week.

  12. Craig March 14, 2010 at 4:52 pm -

The F1 should help ONE HD ratings this week, tonights numbers should be interesting.

And do I have to repeat how sad it is 2.5 Men was the top show of the week, I’d much rather it be Top Gear, even if it’s on Nine.

  13. Nik C March 14, 2010 at 4:44 pm -

What people watch is disgraceful. 2.5 reasons to shoot someone!! Why do people watch US comedy trash….

  14. mikeys March 14, 2010 at 1:01 pm -

    2.5 Men… *facepalm*

  15. CreamyDelight March 14, 2010 at 12:28 pm -

Nine was first in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with Seven taking Adelaide and Perth once more.
Have not seen that for a long time. I reckon its a sign of things to come (cue:Doom&Gloom music).

  16. David Knox March 14, 2010 at 11:58 am -

You’re right. Corrected. Apologies for any confusion.

  17. Janey March 14, 2010 at 11:48 am -

One finished the week on 1.0% not 0.5%. They were on 0.7% after Friday and then got 3.3% on Saturday.
