ONE coming to Darwin

24 hour sports channel ONE HD will begin broadcasting in Darwin from late April.

ONE HD will begin broadcasting in Darwin from 7.30pm Thursday April 22nd.

TEN’s 24 hour sports channel will bring Top End viewers the Indian Premier League cricket finals, Champions Trophy cricket tournaments, rugby, netball, the Commonwealth Games and American sports including basketball, gridiron and baseball.

The ONE HD signal from Darwin Digital Television will reach about 100km out of Darwin while discussions continue about bringing the channel to Central Australia.

So far there is no clarification if ONE SD will also launch.

NTD Nine is still upgrading equipment in readiness to switch GO! to viewers, despite delays to its launch.

ONE turns one on Friday.

  1. ONE HD has started in Darwin at 7:30 pm CST with the first program called Thursday night live. So far I am enjoying this new sports channel in high definition.

  2. Vee

I have already seen it once in regional QLD (where my realitives live), and it is nearly full of American sports. However NBL will be shown on ONE and TEN next summer, increasing the presence of Australian sports on ONE. In time ONE will improve with the telecast of sports but it won’t happen overnight. Then there’s the 2010 commonwealth games, AFL, IPL, grand prix and swimming competitions to name a few. Also I’ve seen Sports Tonight on ONE once as well.

  3. Southern Cross in the Spencer Gulf/Broken Hill region still only have the two channels, GTS/BKN & SC10. But this abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/01/06/2786341.htm looks promising…

  4. Sunshine Coast (or parts thereof) is like Gold Coast. You get both Ten and SC Ten, which is why you get One SD. Proximity to Brisbane (which is famous for being a hole in the ground) isn’t always a bad thing, though in fairness it usually is.

I’m not losing too much sleep over the whole thing though, Ten’s programming is so erratic it’s pointless to forge any kind of loyalty. At least Nine shows what it says it will, albeit 25 minutes late.

  5. Better late than never. With Southern Cross Darwin (which is a Seven affiliate) having first rights to AFL, I wonder how the sport will be covered on ONE. Also, the rest of Northern Territory must get Ten first before receiving ONE.

  6. Stan “Even…Canberra got a better deal”

We should be getting a whole lot better given we’re the capital city, whether our audience is deemed “metro” size or not.

  7. One SD is not likely to launch in Darwin anytime soon given DDT is owned 50% by the owners of Southern cross in a similar manner to TDT in Tasmania. One SD doesn’t yet exist in all SC TEN markets and TDT. I hope I am wrong but… Surprises can and do happen.

  8. Poor Darwin. The forgotten capital city. Even Hobart & Canberra got a better deal with the national roll-out of these extra digital channels.

This is good news, but I doubt Darwin will ever see OneSD as Mildura is currently the only regional area to recieve both OneSD & OneHD. It seems whenever we see Southern Cross having a role to play in negotiations with TEN, it’s only OneHD that gets added. Hence Mildura, where WIN & Prime are the only game in town.
