Ossie and Jackie back to Hey Hey?

By David Knox on March 13, 2010 / Filed Under News 25

Hey Hey its Saturday will return in April, according to today’s Herald Sun.

With auditions getting underway starting next weekend, production is ramping up on the returning show, despite the fact Nine has still not officially revealed just how many episodes are coming.

Daryl Somers also says he is trying to entice Ernie Carroll, aka Ossie Ostrich, and Jackie McDonald to be regulars again.

“It will be lovely for Ernie to be back on board,” he says.

“Ern’s retired of course -but there’s only so much gardening you can do and I know he had a lot of fun (on the reunions).

“And I’ve put a call in to Jackie, too.”

So far Red Symons, John Blackman and Wilbur Wilde are all confirmed for the returning show, but Molly Meldrum is out due to his Seven / Foxtel contracts.

New mum Livinia Nixon is also expected to return.

Hey Hey, Who Knows What Day Or Time This Will Be On Because It’s Nine.

I wouldn’t mind Hey Hey on a Wednesday but Saturday would be better, imagine if a weekly win was all down to Saturday, Nine would win for sure. Wednesday is strong for Nine anyway but having Hey Hey on will not only destroy the competition, considering Ten and Seven are dull on this night but also eliminate a repeat episode of 2 1/2 Men. Cold Case should remain at 9:30pm though with boosted ratings by Hey Hey.

With V, 60 Minutes, Domestic Blitz and a strong Go share on Sunday, new 2 1/2 men, Big Bang, The Mentalist and CSI:Miami on Monday, Top Gear on Tuesday (now a better night in ratings than last year), Hey Hey and Cold Case on Wednesday, Getaway, Menatlist rpts (with CSI hopefully returning here), Footy Show and strong Go share on Thursday, NRL on Friday and Home Videos on Saturday, Nine will be a power house regardless of finishing in first or second for the week.

I assume they got the clearance for real Chook Lotto… What next, Daryl trying to find Ken Morgan to give away their cars?

To all the comments like aweful TV, I wouldnt watch it… why did you even click on a story mentioning only details about whos going to be on the show in 2010? Sounds like your interested…

awful awful telly. as a nation it’s embarrassing we make this stuff.

They should ask Jo Beth Taylor to come back as female co-host. There’s bascially zero chance of Jackie coming back, except maybe in any occasional satellite cross to Qld. If Meldrum can’t go back, they need to find a preferably younger replacement to cover music, or get Richard Wilkins to take his place.

Isn’t the season finale of RPA on the 24th of March and I’m pretty sure that Nine would be running out of Customs and Cold Case episodes. A Hey Hey Best Of Show would be awesome to air over the non-ratings period.

Don’t worry about the day in the title. It will be called that wherever it plays, which I believe will be midweek. Inclusion of Ossie is interesting though…

There is a Hey Hey billboard on the road near my place here in Brissie. Its say “Hey Hey its Saturday” and also has Ossie and Dickie Knee on it, as well as Daryl..

Perhaps a repeat? Either way, I’m quite sure some form of Hey Hey will be on 31/3/10.

There is no way Ernie Carroll will be back as a regular – the guy is 80 you know!

He didn’t seem to have the spark as Ossie in the 2nd reunion show and I wouldn’t blame him one bit if he decided to stay in retirement.

As for Jacki – Daryl had a huge job in getting her to appear in the 2nd show as it was, I seriously doubt she’d be back either.

For the sake of Hey Hey’s longevitiy Daryl needs to bring in new people and characters and update the show for the new century/decade.

Imagine in Hey Hey It’s Saturdays were on Saturday nights, instead of the ‘Not So Funny Home Videos’. That would be awesome

I’ve heard talk of this date… seems odd to return in non-ratings.

    Wednesday 31st of March, 7:30pm.

I really don’t think having someone in their 80s and probably semi retired back on the show. Clearly on the second reunion show he just didn’t have the energy to keep with the Ozzie appearance, he hardly said anything. Seemed a bit rusty in the second reunion show. I like the idea of someone new and younger replacing Ernie as Ozzie, that could work… it will be refresh and Ernie can still get royalties from it.

As for Jackie McDonald….it’s entirely up to her. I really never saw her when she was on the original Hey Hey!! so really can’t comment on her appearances.

  19. vrom March 13, 2010 at 1:50 pm -

that reunion pic looks like it came from the 80s. proof of the show being so outdated. the reunions were fine, but dont bring it back on a regular basis.

  20. gerry March 13, 2010 at 1:01 pm -

They really need to introduce young fresh people (key word: young) to ensure that the younger dempgraphics become regular viewers.

  21. John Jackson March 13, 2010 at 12:59 pm -

Don’t really need Jackie back, but Ossie… yes please! So many guests love it when they meet Ossie, and when Ossie left… Hey Hey seemed to be a bit lacking with just Daryl there at the desk.

Richard, give Jackie a break. She has done next to no television since she left Healthy, Wealthy and Wise back in the early ’90s.

  23. Richard W March 13, 2010 at 10:03 am -

Jackie McDonald was awful in the re-unions. Defenatly proves that she belongs in the 80s.

  24. john March 13, 2010 at 6:18 am -

My honest opinion is that the show was fine as a 2 part reunion.Should have been left at that.People will turn off long before 29 years this time.
I certainly missed the show when it finished but i admit the formula was very tired looking. And having the same cast & format will only have the same effect.Needs to be brought into the new age if it should last.Daryl?

  25. aussitv March 13, 2010 at 5:54 am -

Hope Ozzie comes back! He (Ernie) seemed to be a bit rusty on the second show. Could it be a possibility to have a new person doing Ozzie? Is that Un-Australian of me? Like when all the Looney Tunes and Disney voice artists passed on they got new talent in. Why not? Ernie could still get royalties for the character to pay for his potting mix.
