Returning: Supernatural

By David Knox on March 12, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 38

TEN has confirmed the return of the Winchester brothers.

Supernatural is back in its traditional timeslot of 9:30pm Mondays from March 29th.

It returns with S5E7 “The Curious Case Of Dean Winchester.”

The move will surely please fans who were furious with the TEN after it was removed in December. It attracted a slew of complaints online, including on TV Tonight, and even triggered a postcard campaign directed at the network (“you blogged, we listened?)

Good News Week will air for 60 minutes on March 29th to accommodate the drama’s return in the first week of Easter non-ratings.

Supernatural was recently renewed for a 6th season.

    Come on!!!
i always get excited when i hear supernaturals back on, althought sometimes i dont even know its ganna be on, i just happen to notic it in digital tv guide, but i am sick and tired of just getting into the season and then having it cut off….Again……I need my dose of supernatural people.
The show needs a reliable time slot.

Why has ten suddenly announced that after a short return back that Supernatural “will return later in the year” ??? I hate the ten network :(

  7. Stuart March 30, 2010 at 10:58 pm -

    So it happen :)
but did I miss something or was there a gap in the episodes?

  8. Jayne March 23, 2010 at 7:59 pm -

Look at Virgin Living in UK.. They are doing a Fantastic viral campaign for Supernatural. If a network like Ten are lazy to promo a show… you’re in the wrong business. It’s show biz! So Show off! Give Supernatural a campaign they deserve.

lets hope that all the info that is out there on supernaturals return is true and not just another ploy by channel ten to get us interested in the other garbage they have on air at the moment.Shame on channel ten for not listening to there viewers in this matter,as for me i very rarely watch anything on this channel anymore.

Thanks David and all you true die hard fans cannot wait until the 29th about time they listened instead of airing all that other rubbish

I have checked with TEN. It is definitely back Mon Mar 29.

That Tweet is a twit and has been changed to the correct date.

Channel 10 has just announced on Twitter that Supernatural will be back on April 5 10pm instead of March 29 9:30pm.

While i have doubts over SPN ratings given all the chopping and changing, I choose to believe that this is good on two fronts, firstly SPN being back, and hopefully a tighter GNW. I like GNW but think it suffers from being dragged out to 90mins. Some guests make the 90mins fly past but when the chemistry isn’t there it’s horrible and limps to the end. I think it found it’s audience way back when it was a 20-25 min show on the ABC because people felt like it was too short – leave them wanting more not mindlessly flicking channels.

Ratings issues aside, this is good news. Channel 10 listening to an irate portion of their audience is nothing if not good press. Supernatural is well written, well produced TV that is deserving of the slew of media accolades it has received of the back of season 4 and into season 5. It would be great to see this show given a fair chance on 10. It didn’t get one last season and hasn’t so far this season. Not everything can be about the holybratings Grail. It is equally important to offer variety to the audience. We forget that TV is an entertainment business as well as a big business. I was ropeable when Supernatual was dropped. I am not a teenybopper, nor a fangirl like “Becky”, and I find it offensive that all lovers of this show are looked on as crackpots. It’s just shot it’s 100th episode, it’s about to enter it’s 6th season. How many shows can say that these days. I’m glad 10 has put it back on. I hope they let it run now til season end. I think that is probably optimistic, but heres hoping. It’s true that by the time ep 7 airscon Marc 29, most of us fans will have justed watched ep 15. But I will watch it on 10 regardless, to show my support. Hopefully, now with th timeshift viewing ratings the numbers will be better, but I don’t care, it is some of the best made entertainment on TV.

  15. Yasminke March 14, 2010 at 9:14 am -

Yes, thank you David for confirming this and for allowing us — SPN “teenyboppers” — to flood your site with comments when it was pulled in January.

  16. Justin March 13, 2010 at 9:35 pm -

God Damn Teeny boopers and their cult viewing. Can’t we have something decent on TV?

  17. David Knox March 13, 2010 at 7:40 pm -

    My work is done!

  18. Anita C March 13, 2010 at 7:11 pm -

Fantastic news. Thanks for the update David.

Hopefully Network Ten will see fit to advertise the return of Supernatural during prime time, especially during NCIS. To me, if you were looking to pick up viewers it would be logical to advertise during the highest rated show on the network. Unfortunately that rarely happened when Supernatural was on in previous seasons, because NCIS airs on a Tuesday evening and the earliest ads for Spn used to appear late Thursday or Friday.

Yay, I am so happy that supernatural return. Hey, would it be possible if they put repeats for few shows because I have missed out and plus my Mum don’t have channel 10. If you living in the bush and no choice of channels is there!

  20. Bela March 13, 2010 at 3:17 am -

Yay yay Yay… i knew this already because i saw it in tv week earlier this week. so happy.. i dont mind time, for something this fantasitcal and epic, time is never an issue, slightly annoying and frustrating that its… for the second time this season is in non ratings period, but this is less dodgy than the christmas ones. so epic squees from me… im just so gllad its back, and that we get the remainder of the season in one whack…. i could go on all day.. of which noone would would read. ROFLMAO… but i have plans to celebrate with some purple nurples, and the key episodes of sn so i’m up to date… Whoot SN marathon

  21. Nicole B March 13, 2010 at 1:24 am -

Anyone else notice that it’s back on during Easter non-ratings…. I’m pretty sure they are using it as filler. Just like they did for the first few weeks of the Summer non-ratings… If they make it to episode 12 I’ll be surprised.
I love Supernatural… and I hate to say it but it’s just not viable on a free to air network when ratings matter a whole lot more because ratings bring sponsers and sponsers bring money and money allows networks to purchase other TV shows and other TV shows bring in more viewers and it all becomes a nice neat little circle.
Although on the plus side I can’t wait to see Channel Tens promos for this. Wonder if there will be any mention of the postcards… I still think we should have sent shoes in memorium for Sams lost shoe and written on them “I lost my Show”

  22. Alex T March 12, 2010 at 11:56 pm -

Tasmanian devil: that’s exactly what i thought.. I really hope they listened! GNW should stay at 60 mins.. i really hope they keep it at that!

  23. JT March 12, 2010 at 9:53 pm -

Finally! Only hoping that this time round 10 leaves it on for the rest of the season… Undoubtedly they will complain about poor ratings – what did they expect? By now most viewers are sick of waiting and streamline straight from US, given up on the fact that sooner or later channel 10 will change the time, take it off again, or do something awful…

Don’t want to be the negative bloke but….

  24. ilis March 12, 2010 at 9:51 pm -

    Great. :)

  25. bigjack March 12, 2010 at 8:56 pm -

Looks like it’ll just be another night with big losses for Ten, they should have shoved it past midnight if it means so much to its fans, it’s never rated well in primetime and never will.

  26. Adam M. March 12, 2010 at 8:49 pm -

    great for the supernatural fans!

is there any word about Stargate Universe though? Now with timeshifting, i hope TEN will give it a second chance sometime in the future.

  27. ant March 12, 2010 at 8:47 pm -

This is great But Good News Week will Not air for 60 minutes, it will meander on for ages until about 10pm, which is when we’ll see Supernatural (along with Burn Notice and White Collar). All the shows I like on Ten are at 10pm.

But at least it’s back, and Monday nights are good as there’s absolutely bugger-all else on so there’ll be no shirt-rending conflicts.

If anyone knows anyone with one of those ratings contraptions, bribe them to watch it.

  28. RichoTB March 12, 2010 at 8:36 pm -

I have to admit although I was a critic of the show before, Supernatural’s 4th and 5th seasons are superb television. Especially the 4th. The show’s desperate, annoying fans give it a bad name (as is parodied by the ‘Becky’ character in episodes 1 and 9 of the latest season), but the mythology is a nice twist on your standard supernatural folklore, and the characters have developed nicely since their origins, particularly Sam and Castiel.

    It’s about bloody time!

  30. Bram March 12, 2010 at 7:35 pm -

In my home country Indonesia, it used to be aired weeknights at 8pm central time on Trans7 (like Australia, my country also has 3 time zones but no DST used). Then they moved it to Saturday night timeslot (If I’m not wrong it was 10pm till midnight central time). After that, it was gone as local productions take over till now. Really looking forward to watch it on TEN.

  31. Jason March 12, 2010 at 7:28 pm -

Ten will be showing “The Curious Case Of Dean Winchester” but everyone will be watching “Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid” =P

Either way it’s good to see ten finally putting it back on TV hopefully they’ll keep it around this time.

good news. better later then never ever

but i can see the headlines now: “Supernatural Ratings a Disaster!’

C10: “But you blogged and we listened! And this is how you repay us? thanks a lot”

  36. Peter March 12, 2010 at 5:53 pm -

All I can say is Yea!!!!!!!!! Thanks Ten.

  37. ryan March 12, 2010 at 5:37 pm -

tasmanian devil: Lets hope they listened and keep it at 60 mins!! for 2 reasons, its way too long for a comedy and the show after it will do better in ratings starting at 9.30 instead of 10. Good move ten, lets just hope all the complaining pays off! if it doesnt ten could always bring in nurse jackie, or law and order c.i

  38. tasmanian devil March 12, 2010 at 5:22 pm -

“Good News Week will air for 60 minutes”

    You blogged, we listened?
