Saturday Night Fever on Sunday

If you've never seen Saturday Night Fever, the film that defines the disco era, it gets an outing this Sunday on 7TWO.

A bit of a rarity pops up on 7TWO this Sunday night with the chance to see Saturday Night Fever if you’ve never seen it.

The 1977 film earned John Travolta his first Academy Award nomination as Tony Manero. Directed by John Badham and with a score led by the Bee Gees, it defined the disco era. Reviewers went as far as to say that the dancing Travolta was actually sexier with his clothes ON.

It was released as an R rated film in Australia but carries an M rating this Sunday night at 8:30pm.

  1. There was also an M rated version released about a year after the R rated one that had most of the swearing censored as well as a few other cuts.

  2. That sounds great Billy! So can you just confirm David or someone, whether anything will be cut out of the film to warrant the M rating instead of the R, or is sillygostly correct that it’s just due to the change in what’s considered appropriate?

  3. Thats great but to make this repeat different I wish they screened – The Disco Ball ( a TV concert special that was in Los Angeles a few years ago ) and had Usher , Taylor Dayne , Chic , KC and the Sunshine band , The Pointer Sisters , Whoopi Goldberg , Irene Cara , The Trammps , Village People , Niki French and more.
That would keep people watching 7TWO after the movie .

  4. The film was originally classified R18+ in the 70s, however, after the MA15+ rating was introduced in 1993, the content was deemed light enough to fit into that category (which it now carries in its DVD release).
