Susan Boyle to sing on Hey Hey

Susan Boyle will give a live performance of ‘Cry Me A River’ on Hey Hey It’s Saturday.

Susan Boyle will be singing on Hey Hey It’s Saturday during her Australian visit.

Boyle will give a live performance of ‘Cry Me A River’ on Hey Hey It’s Saturday on Wednesday, May 5th.

She also performs at the Logie Awards on May 2nd.

Boyle said, “I am so excited about going to Australia. This time last year I never dreamed I would leave Blackburn, now I am travelling to the other side of the world. Now that can’t be bad! That I have been invited to perform on Australia’s biggest awards show is really something. I can’t wait to get there, to meet the people, to see the sights and to sing.”

The coup for Nine is significant given Seven has the rights to Australia’s Got Talent and would have loved her for that show. Boyle was discovered on the Simon Cowell-owned Britain’s Got Talent. She was also interviewed by Molly Meldrum for a documentary.

SONY will release a special CD/DVD Souvenir Edition of her multi-platinum album ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ on Friday April 16th, which includes the Meldrum interview.

  2. Well Hey Hey rated through the roof last year so I guess tall poppy applies still. And of course it’s a much loved institution for us Gen Xers..well those who don’t have issues with Nine that is 😉
And while I agree it’s peak was the mid 80’s to early 90’s it remains a highly entertaining show and will be much better for the 10 year break IMHO. This was confirmed by the excellent reunion specials. They should keep the number of shows to a minimum though to keep it fresh.

  3. Oh, Marc. Be serious. “Tall Poppy Syndrome” is best applied to things that were great, remain great, but are cut down by cultural cringe.

Does not apply to the reincarnated Hey Hey. That poppy’s now encased in glass and viewed by tourists.

And definitely does not apply to Susan Boyle, a competent but unremarkable singer (and I’m sure a nice person) who, let’s be brutally honest here, is only famous now because she had an unattractive face but the voice of a person who can sing stuff almost as well as people who sing stuff for a living, and therefore was a feel-good-news-story PR dream catch.

  4. I feel really concerned for her. They are racist bogans on that show. She will be the subject of sly ridicule. They are an embarassment in our country.

  5. @jamie. The over 70’s must be a big market. Since she held the number spot for a while. So i don’t think the ratings will be hurt. But then again not too many over 70’s have oztam, I suspect.

  6. What small minded people some of you are!
I look forward to seeing her regardless the show she performs on.
Talk about tall poppy syndrome alive and well in Australia.

  7. Nine have got one of the world’s most delightful talents performing on two of the most tackiest shows on television – the Logies and Hey Hey.

Wonder if she’ll get confused and turn up at 9 studios on the Saturday instead of the Wednesday. hmmmm…..

  8. Ugh will be turning over when she’s on although it could be amusing seeing her on Red Faces! Just don’t want to listen to her wailing..
