Todd Lasance wins drugs appeal

Former Home and Away actor Todd Lasance has won an appeal against a 12-month good behaviour bond for cocaine possession.

Former Home and Away actor Todd Lasance has won an appeal against a 12-month good behaviour bond for cocaine possession.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports NSW District Court judge Helen Morgan today quashed his bond given in January.

Judge Morgan heard evidence that Lasance could not apply for a US visa during the duration of a bond, which requires a three-month wait. The court heard he has a good chance of winning roles in the US.

In January Lasance pleaded guilty to the charge of possessing 0.36 grams of cocaine following his arrest at a Kings Cross nightclub in December. He was given the bond by the Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court. No conviction was recorded.

Logie-winning Lasance has been filming the TV adaptation of Cloudstreet for Showtime.

  1. It’s not ok to break the law but sometimes good people do silly things. Have you never made a mistake? The law that enabled Todd to have a second chance is applicable to everyone in the right circumstances. There was no favouritism here, Todd desereved a second chance and the Court agreed.

  2. What a joke! And anyway what hollywood actor doesnt take drugs!! The legal system in this country is pathetic, know wonder people go out and rape, kill or assault, they know they will get the smallest penalties if anything.

  3. i dont see this as being any different to all those people who get work drivers licences for DUI convictions, hes an actor, and a pretty good one at that, the next logical step in his career is to try and “make it” overseas, the law is there to punish, yes, but its not there to prevent people advancing their careers in there chosen fields.

  4. as an up and coming actor, it is heartening to know the law is there to support me and my amercian movie career, no matter what my indiscretions. to that end, i just sold beer to a minor; invaded a pensioner’s house to see what real fear looked like on a real old lady’s face; and stole a car, which I used to run over the last guy who got a role over me. god bless america, i mean australia. and god save the australian legal system.

  5. It wasnt as if he would never be able to make it to the US, just not in the immediate future (which would’ve been a good lesson for him and others). make him wait a year or two and miss out on some roles… better then jail or a harsher sentence

  6. @ Shelley – of course!! One rule for us plebs, totally different set of rules for the tv peoples.

I’d love to see a comparison case with someone who is not on tv. Did they get their conviction appealed?
