Veronica & Shadi win My Kitchen Rules

Queenslanders Veronica & Shadi have won the Grand Final of Seven's reality cooking contest.

Queenslanders Veronica & Shadi have won the Grand Final of My Kitchen Rules.

They take home $100,000 after nabbing the title in Seven’s hit series.

With a score of 53 points the pair defeated Victorians Clint & Noah on 49 points.

Both teams were forced to cook a three course meal for a full restaurant which included former contestants, celebrity chefs and family members.

While Veronica & Shadi cooked swordfish for their main course, Clint & Noah cooked duck. By the end of the main course, judges indicated they were neck and neck and would be split by their desserts: Hazelnut Tart with Raspberries for the boys and Orange Blossom Baked Custard for the Queenslanders.

Seven’s reality series with Pete Evans and Manu Fieldel has enjoyed a popular run with viewers as the biggest new show of the year so far. Despite some questions about whether it might be seen as a pale shadow of MasterChef Australia, it has attracted strong word of mouth and last week scored over 1.5m viewers.

A second season is currently casting.

Seven also used the finale to promote its forthcoming seasons of The Pacific and Australia’s Got Talent.

LMAO!!! Manu is flat-out adorable and we need to see more of this fabulous Aussie-Frenchman on our screens. Seven need to give him his own cooking show!

  3. I’m from Perth and watched the show as I was unaffected by the crazy storms. I actually thought the finale was just OK. It seemed like a normal episode. Looking forward to Masterchef though. Lets hope Channel 10 put it back on at 7pm.

  4. Let’s take a little splash of the popular, Come Dine With Me, and a big fat chunk of the juggernaut, MasterChef Australia, and what do you get? My Kitchen Rules.

I swear, if you squinted your eyes while watching them in the MKR kitchen, you would think you were watching MCA. Even the glitter and the hands up in the air were the same!!

  5. MKR is just a poor man’s (woman’s) version of Come Dine With Me and Masterchef and then add The Biggest Loser couples. Ripp-off two formats and stick it together. Quite disgraceful really.

And for the production. The winner announcement had no suspense whatsoever. As soon as the first score of S&V was announced you knew the result. Can’t the producers style their talent? Manu needs sub-titles. And to the Seven producer’s – if you can’t afford the glitter don’t bother having a glitter cannon.

“And my score for this blatent ripp-off! 2!!!!!”

Glad it is over and can’t wait for Masterchef.

  6. I would watch anything with Manu in it, I could listen to him for hours! Give him his own show.

So glad Veronica and Shadi won, they deserved it for being brilliant cooks.

  7. I have really enjoyed the series too.
Both teams were great, however the Qld couple were more in control than the Vic lads. IMHO the judges got it right.

  8. Well done. they seemed a really nice couple. It’s a shame the series is over. I really enjoyed it and it also gave me some great ideas for recipes.

  9. Watched the end of this Masterchef/Ready Steady Cook rip off.

So glad those 2 awful Victorians lost.

When I saw the promos showing Brumby and Doyle saying “do it for Victoria”, my stomach churned.

Sadly it looks like we are gonna be bombarded with another series later in the year.

What joy! MKR, Masterchef 2, MKR2 and Junior Masterchef – all in one year!!!

    Groan!

  10. Dammit! Perth was dealing with the aftermath of storms and we disconnected the power to deal with water inside the house so we missed it. Hope the Seven website will have the finale. Or will it be repeated on 7TWO?

  11. The biggest issue with these shows is that the judges get to see who cooks what… Of course some sort of bias is going to come into it. Why can’t they get two random dishes, rank them and then find out who made what… until then i won’t be watching these shows… which is a shame cause they are quite entertaining, but that one downside has put me off. I hoped MKR would do that considering Masterchef didn’t.

Ah well… I wonder what our next reality obsession with be 😀

  12. Thought Clint and Noah should have won and i was cheering for them, which pains me as a South Aussie. The duck looked amazing, something i might try and cook. Not a fan of seafood, so neither of Shadi and Veronica’s meals appealed to me. I’m gonna have a go at both desserts though too. MKR was a great program, can’t wait to see it again, and now i’m excited for Masterchef to start.

  13. Pains me to say this as a Melburnian but congrats to Veronica and Shadi. They were more in control in their kitchen and that would have been come across in their dishes.

And to Clint and Noah, a job well done. You did us Vics proud.
