Waking the Dead 6 to ABC

Ok it's not Season 8 but ABC1 will air Season 6 of the gruesome British thriller from mid-April.

Waking the Dead fans may have been pleased with UKTV airing Season 8 and disappointed with Nine holding back on Season 7 (planned for January but then shelved), but ABC will air Season 6 from mid-April.

There are 6 stories in this season, which aired in the UK 2007, each with two parts. Both parts will air each Friday at 100 mins each week.

It begins with “Wren Boys.”

Carrey Mulligan (2010 Oscar nominee) guest stars in this story of the mysterious death of an unidentified teenage boy who drowned 16 years ago in a concrete pit. Detective Superintendent Peter Boyd (Trevor Eve) and his cold case team – including their new forensic scientist Dr Eve Lockhart (Tara Fitzgerald) – are taken deep into the culture and traditions of Irish travellers.

A lump of human ear found in the boy’s stomach matches the DNA of that of a comatose man brought to hospital after a fist fight, and Eve discovers they were brothers in an Irish traveller family, the McDonaghs. Meanwhile, DC Stella Goodman (Félicité Du Jeu) is attacked by a ferocious dog at a woodland shrine near the scene of the crime, where a mysterious nun who appears to have stigmata, warns her to leave.

Meanwhile, Boyd interviews Sean Killigan (Daragh O’Malley), who owned the construction site where Davy McDonagh was found, and Eve discovers traces of woad and the hallucinogen fly agaric in Davy’s skin. He also has a classic boxer’s injury meaning he also was blind when he went into the pit. Nearby they uncover a dumpsite and shrine land where pagan fighting took place.

The injured man, Joe McDonagh (Edward MacLiam), awakes to the shocking news that after all these years, his brother Davy is dead. He tells Boyd he makes a living bare-knuckle boxing, and thinks his opponent was paid to kill him. Meanwhile, DI Spencer (Wil Jordan) and DC Goodman find a former construction site security guard injured, and suspect he’s being targeted by the killer.

The mystery deepens when Dr. Grace Foley (Sue Johnston) discovers that Killigan’s young wife Esther (Olivia Caffrey) was Davy’s girlfriend when he was killed, and was pregnant at the time…

It airs from 8:30pm Friday April 16 on ABC1.

  1. The more of WTD the better. Enjoying series 8 and with the ABC showing series 6, the commercials have losed it because they didn’t use it. Hope the rights have been acquired for series 7 and 8.

  2. Love WTD. Just love it. So glad it’s on the ABC because Nine shows it (brilliant drama) – and us (the audience who wants to watch it) no respect whatsoever.
