  1. to quote James: “Ten are pretty much stuffed whatever they do on a Saturday, so it’s probably least of their concerns.”

Unfortunately I believe there management thinks that too, which explains the mess the channel is in. three nights this week of 15,15 and 17. pathetic. Those nights, including what you speak, should be their top priority to fix. The fact they trail from 7 to 17% every night of the week shows a channel in dire straights.

I want them to pick there game up to stop this Woolworths/Coles thing happening on tv where 7 and 9 are calling the shots.

10 where first out of the blocks with there 2nd channel, but as usual, with everything they do it was rushed with no thought. Go stepped in took immediate control. 72 came later and now its a dog fight between those two…why?, cos they put some sort of thought into what they were doing. heck some nights those 2 secondary channels take 10% of the over all audience.

Channel 10 has to give what audiences wish to see, they are failing at that at this time and masterchef will not save it.

  2. ryan, sports bulletins don’t work in primetime – even on One they made a temporary move to 9.30 a permanent one for Sports Tonight.

There’s always a drop-off from News to Simpsons. Different demographics. Ten are pretty much stuffed whatever they do on a Saturday, so it’s probably least of their concerns.

  3. Big share for the ABC, helped by strong ratings for its SA election coverage. The ABC would have benefited even more by its Tasmanian election coverage had it been included in the metropolitan ratings.

  4. Thats a shocking figure for the simpsons! ten should give atleast 1 day without it, complete drop off from news to sports tonight to simpsons. Ten should have ten news spots tonights together in 1 show

  5. Excellent for ABC on Saturdays!

man, remember when Funniest Home Videos use to get 1.5m and get into the final top 10… boy those were the days!

  6. David, was Eddie’s millionaire kids special on saturday nights just a two episode special or did it get axed becasue of low ratings?

  7. It was so weird watching mrs Doubtfire last night with Sally Field in it. Watching her in that film compared to watching her in Brothers & Sisters I’d forgotten how long ago that film was made. Back then she played a mother of 3 young kids now she is a mother to 5 adults.

  8. I’ll say 1.8million. Don’t think it will crack 2 million unfortunately, it is up against new 2.5 Men.

And yes the new digital channels should be allowed to show AFL etc first run. I would love if GO! could play NRL matches into Adelaide at a decent time.

@Mike, if that’s at me, i wasn’t referring to Fiona’s joke as ironic.

  9. Sorry, how was O’Loghlin’s joke ironic? Do you even know what irony is? Irony is a play on literal and intended meaning. She looked like she wanted to hit Bindi Irwin when she made that slapping gesture. That’s not ironic at all.

  10. some people’s humour really is non-existent, no wonder Fiona O’Loughlin can’t even tell a joke now. Adelaide’s all been called bogan central, 2.5 Men is often referred as only for bogans, yet in Adelaide it does not rate as well as elsewhere. Kinda funny.

I think that says it all though about comedy here. Some of you have just proved that, you can’t even take a little ironic joke. You can’t see funny when at all, again ironic that’s why you watch 2. Men.

Disclaimer: Apologies anyone offended, i thought there were intelligent people on here who coudl see irony, and who could take a joke. I was wrong. I’ll go back to watching South Park now.

  11. @Trev… Friday’s ratings.
    2.5 Men 49,000
    7PM Project 51,000

    Where’d you get confused???

Agree ryan, i don’t watch Biggest Loser anymore, but i watch Masterclass, only for the cooking though. I quite like Janelle, think she’s good on tv, natural and warm. I only watch BH&G for the cooking segments too.

  12. @Jed by 2012 I think AFL will find itself on other digital channels like 7TWO, One HD etc first run.
It should actually be allowed to happen now! The government need to hurry up and let sport like AFL onto these channels first run. The governments slowness on a decision has become a complete joke.

  13. @ DanR. Try telling ACMA. I assume they won’t allow nearly every network to have news on between 5:30 and 7pm. It means that news bulletins would have to become lighter and less dramatic for kids sake. Parents would also have a say about why so much news and as to how can my kids have alternatives. I assume Ten can’t do much unless 7pm project is no longer on air. Look here at 6pm, it’s all adults and older demographics. SBS has Global Village [Doco], ABC HD/1 [Some older peoples show], ABC2 [usually some repeat from ABC1]. The best choice for young ones is ABC3 [kids shows], but not everyone has abc3 and some kids are not into everything they offer. Also think about how Simpsons fans who couldn’t live without them, and would never cease to complain and want both the 7pm project and neighbours gone just to be happy. I guess to please everyone is to remove the 7pm project altogether. It just can’t say it’s a current affairs with comedians fronting the desk. And finally Neighbours at 6.30 is a must to alternate from TT/ACA and the World News Hr on SBS. It’s all to do with classifications and content.

  14. I like two and a half men and the league version of the footy show. Two of the best shows on tv. I don’t know why all the snobs who don;t like two and a half men or the footy show. Can;t find a out door cafe to sip lattes and look european at while they’re on. I also like border security. Can;t stand airways though. The behaviour of both the passengers and the airlines makes me want to throw things at my tv. . In all honesty i don’t understand why anyone hates those shows. The only reasons they give is that they have too much class to watch them. Just wondering what those people would like to see instead. And how does watching a tv show gives you “class” I mean, it doesn;t seem very classy to me. To get your “class” from tv.

  15. I dont know why people dont like tbl masterclasses, they are helpful for all everyone, im not fat but i have learnt how to exercise to get rid of pain in cetain parts of my body, learnt how bad foods are and how many calories in all of them plus seen old contestants and how to build muscle quicker. Alot of info people should be checking it out. although janelle is a bit of a quack she is still not that bad to watch

  16. And people want 7PM Project axed. It’s beating 2.5 Men here in Adelaide…mainly cos we have class.

Channel 7 looks screwed for new AFL rights deal. Demetriou came out and said people want it live so that’s what they should get. Not something Seven would want to hear. If they don’t concede they will lose the rights or at least lose Friday night games.

  17. the ratings & general media around Neighbours 25th compared to EastEnders 25th, could not be more different, I know there is some talk of some celebrations on the 6000 episode, but there are not exactly any firm plans for that.

  18. Its actually really good to see TBL above 900k on Wednesday/Thurs. It actually came in the Top 10 last night. I think the format has been changed too much – the 1.5 hour long show on Friday doesnt draw much interest; its not a cooking show, its a weightloss show. I also prefer it in a 7.00 timeslot, TENs making a rubbish decision in sticking with the 7PM Project. It will clearly never be what they need it to be. Stretching out Dance until 10 pm when most kids are in bed, tweaking of formats etc. are proving to negatively effect their shares.

  19. @Adam, Ryans bleating about the 7pm is meant to give him objectivity on this board regarding the 10 network. As you would of noticed, his obsession with the network boarders on “paid member of staff”. It got obvious late last year. shame really, his opinion about some shows could be right, but alas his opinion is totally overlooked, at least by me. There is a few others also, for certain networks, to use a bit of slang, “they stand out like dogs balls” after a while.

  20. tasmanian devil

If they moved The 7pm Project to 6:30 I doubt it would gain many viewers but Ten would definitely get credit for putting it up against TT (Tabloid Trash) and ACA (A Crappy Affair). Besides, I would be surprised if Ten bumped Neighbours.

@ V “At 7 pm there are too many other shows to watch” – What shows are you talking about? If you asked me, ABC2 is the only channel with something worth watching at 7pm.

  21. @ Ryan
You seem to watch a show you hate an awful lot! Please don’t tell me you watch the commercia news or tabloid current affair shows!

7PM is an innovative concept. They may not have got the content or even the structure completely right but I have respect for Ten with how they innovate. If they didn’t try these concepts then they would never have come across Masterchef.

I don’t understand why they persist with the Simpsons. Audience switches off at 6pm and then builds again in small increments.

  22. I seriously think the AFL Footy Show would get better ratings if it was shown at 9.30pm Brisbane.
From what I can see the NRL Footy Show in Brisbane got smashed by pretty much every other show in Prime Time!

  23. Good to see the biggest loser staying put, that room of food i could have eaten the lot! I dont know why law and order isnt doing well, great eps. maybe its cause its pushed to 9.10?
Ten should do a major promo for neighbours 25th, it should show alot of the cast ove the yrs, the big cliffhangers and biggest storylines, plus the changes to the whole show

  24. @ adam: The 7pm project has had time to get its viewers and its not happening, crap news topics we’ve already heard through the day from internet and just news in general, tonights is about preparing for a cyclone! I mean hello! people know how to prepare for a friggin cyclone! were not idiots, we have been getting cyclones for god knows how many yrs and have been told over and over what to do plus its just common sense. Promo’s like these suck and will never get anyone watching

  25. Jed says:
    March 19, 2010 at 1:35 pm
I don’t understand why NSW and Queenslanders hate League version of Footy Show.
    ……………..
I stopped watching the show about ten years ago when it started to add a heap of rubbish and got away from the game of RL.
In Sydney last week in it’s first show of the year they had 199,000 viewers this week they only got 187,000. With Mathew John’s new show at 7.30 next week it will be interesting to see if they get 170,000.

  26. I totally agree with Adam 7 pm should be on at 6.30 so viewers have some choice as to what to watch at that time. At 7 pm there are too many other shows to watch.

  27. I don’t understand why NSW and Queenslanders hate League version of Footy Show. I don’t watch the AFL one anymore, but i always seem to stay up late and watch the league version. They have meaningful discussions about the game, they preview each game in depth and recap last weeks games too. Beau Ryan is a gem, much better than Crawford or Sam Newman’s street talk. And the panellists are far better than the usual d***heads AFL version have every week. I really don’t get why Leage people hate it so much.

  28. I think ive worked out why figures in general are lower on thursday and 800-900k seems acceptable for 7.30 and 8.30. GO, 7Two and OneHD had almost a 10% combined total audience share. Thursdays is Go most watched night, as is one and one of the better nights for 7two. Go had over 300k at 7.30 and 8.30 thats great.

Loser seems to be up the last 3 days. I think if it does return next year, ten should do the following Sunday – Challenge/Weigh In, Monday – Elimination, Tuesday – WareHouse, Wednesday – Tempation/Family Visit, Thursday – The Walk and Friday – MasterClass. I think the addition of the Masterclass is good, but losing The Walk and The Warehouse has effect thw interest in the show as both mad the game interesting.

  29. I can’t argue with your opinion of the tabloid garbage Adam, but when you claim that the 7PM Turkey is decent viewing you lose quite a large proportion of your credibility. This complete waste of time has been on now for over several months, how much more time are you willing to give it so it may achieve a half decent audience?

As for the Footy Show, even though I am a staunch League supporter, the Sydney version of this codswallop is long overdue for axing as it could only appeal to the intellectually challenged, as the Sydney figures indicate.

Human Journey on Aunty One deserved a much larger audience as well.

  30. Wow, thursday night really sucks. If it wasn’t for Human Journey (abc) and SVU (10) i probably wouldn’t have turned the idiot box on at all last night. Oh damn, it’s friday and it gets worse.

Idiot Box, i like that !

  31. yeah, the editing of shows like border security are what make it unwatchable. they often portray the ‘white’ australian as being an the innocent guy whilst people of asian/european/middle-eastern descent are almost always guilty, even if they are innocent, the editing and promos make it seem like that they are guilty.

  32. Thursday nights are so devoid of viewers. You can almost hear the whistles of the tumbleweed, if you were watching that is and I like millions of others were not :P

  33. Hey, Fredo, I never said I didn’t enjoy those shows. I don’t believe the shows’ makers deliberately set out to stir up racism (I’d hope not, anyway), but both shows nevertheless present “foreigners” in a less-than-flattering light and I fear that plays to our community’s dark side.

  34. Absolutely blows my mind that nearly 2.5 million across the capitals either watch Today Tonight or A Current Affair each night! Gives me the chills that people can actually sit through this garbage.

7PM project is decent viewing and hopefully people migrate across over time. Maybe 7PM would do better if it was directly up against the garbage 6.30 tabloid shows.

The problem in having a show that covers the days topics at 7pm is that all other networks news and current affairs have already covered everything that has happened during the day and possibly people are not wanting to watch it again.

Also, half of Tens viewers turn off @ 6 when the Simpsons come on and then it is a very slow recovery after that with slow increments turning back on. Move neighbours to 6pm, the project to 6.30 and put the Masterchef or Biggest Loser in the 7PM slot. Hardly rocket science! But then again, we are a country that loves tabloid garbage! Gotta know the latest on botox and who is shopping at Aldi haha

  35. @ ryan. 468k for Burn Notice in a 10.10 – 11.10 timeslot is not “pretty good”, you are kidding yourself. Brothers & Sisters had a near identical timeslot on Tuesday (10.15 – 11.10), attracting 899k. That is pretty good.

  36. It really annoys me when people make uninformed comments about Border Security and Customs like Tony has. Why is loving Border Security taken to be racist or xenophobic? People watch such shows for the same reason they watch shows like Airways or Bondi Rescue… watching people make fools of themselves can be fascinating. Customs and immigration officers are just doing their jobs as defined under the constitution and I don’t think they take any particular joy in showing people up. If you don’t want to watch it, just tune out and allow people to enjoy what they want.

    • Fredo: I’m not as inclined to agree they are ‘just’ doing their jobs. In documentary / reality the presence of the camera changes everything -and I mean both sides of the table. It was interesting to hear today that a woman was incorrectly imprisoned for 5 days with ice tea mistaken as heroin. Would this make it onto Border Security or just the guilty? Editing is very powerful. Border Security thrives on the paranoia that started with the Howard govt and Tampa.

  37. How have the Swimming Championsips been going for One. Doesn’t seem that long ago that they were on Nine in primetime winning their slot.

  38. @Timothy Jong – Nine is not doing the cuts to Top Gear, the BBC sends then a 50 min copy to air, this is the same for all international markets like Australia. Yes there are more ads but that’s the government rules on how many ads they are allowed per hour.

  39. Loser did well last night winning all demos, been a while since over 900,000. I also rekon 468,000 is pretty good for a show that runs from 10.10 till 11.10, I really hope ten cut sytycd to 1hr 40 mins and have burn notice on @ 9.40, they could easily do this after next week when there are only 8 couples left. I think Ten should move 7pm project to 6pm while masterchef is on since they are so fkn stupid and insist on keeping it

  40. Customs and Border Security have one thing in common: they both feed our xenophobic and racist tendencies!

Sam, that’s a very subjective opinion! Lost, IT Crowd, Spicks’n’Specks and At the Movies make Wednesday nights very entertaining!

  41. Im loving Customs. Ten times more exciting than Border Security. All the cases seem pretty hardcore – for example last nights couple with 3.5Kgs of Heroin just tucked into their rucksack compared to watching another Asian/American family being done for trying to smuggle in more biscuits or chicken feet on BS.

  42. 29 Burn Notice Ten 468,000 119,000 163,000 83,000 54,000 48,000

This should be doing alot better. Used to be up 700-800k. Looks like the 10pm or later starts are killing its ratings.

  43. 0.6% for ABC2, ABC3 and SBS TWO – thought that was a mistake at first! That’s very low for ABC2, not bad for ABC3, and a good result for SBS TWO.

Swimming helping to keep ONE above the bottom 3 channels.

  44. How sad to get home from work at 1.45am, and find “paid promotion” on 72 and local go “88” down again, although sydney 99 go worked fine, just not as clear. Guess there is lots more work to be done on the digital channels and infrastructure, but they better hurry.

and that promo for masterchef sucks bigtime. All of a sudden “there is going to be a food fight” sounds intelligent

  45. Fantastic result for MKR. It has built into quite the hit. Will be very interesting to see how it goes next week for the finale, I’m thinking around 1.7m.

  46. Just a quick question David. I noticed FlashForward is back on in the U.S. this Thursday, any word if Seven will be fasttracking it with a possible slot being Thursday 9.30pm given all they’re showing is TGYH repeats and that would mean only being a week behind the U.S.

  47. @Goonies, i suggest you send a complaint to Nine via the email complaints. I’ll be doing just that cos i wanted to watch Survivor at 8.40 and i’ll also be complaining about Seven going over time, MKR was extended to 9.10 yet went til 9.17. I’ve already sent several complaints about shows going overtime, and i said i would complain to them every time it happened, and i’ll do just that. Suggest every one does the same until the networks get the message.

  48. It saddens me that now stories are beginning to pop up here that are being closed to comment. Its not to hard to refuse to allow posts that would or could have legal ramifications, while allowing sensible posting on those stories to go ahead. Certain news sites use this approach (ie, no comments allowed) when they wish public perception to go the way they wish it too, (you will not question us..on anything). I truly hope this site is not heading down that track

  49. I may be the minority here…but Survivor is still a great show! Its quite interesting with this series watching the “best of the best”..

    ….anyway there I said it!

  50. Seymor Smith

If they get rid of neighbours they are going to struggle to get 250 hours a year of local drama in prime time. I guess they could put it on at 10:30. Otherwise they’d need some pretty significant commissioning to make up the requirements.

  51. Timothy Jong

I watch Top Gear despite all the ads Channel Nine scram into 70 minutes. (Being on a commucial network. People are clearly catching on to how many ad breaks and cut outs there are during the show. That’s why Top Gear dropped down to number five last night and hate to say it will continue to go down, unless they stop the cut outs and not too many ads!!

  52. Can’t believe so many people watch Air Ways & Border Security. What’s going on?

Thought NCIS got bogged down last year but now seems back on track, complete with skinny Magee.

Glad ABC moved Collectors, I kept missing it on Sundays.

As for Neighbours, last year when it dropped below 500K for the first time, I suggested a move to the afternoon only to be answered with comments about
demos and UK sales. With a real chance that it may dip below 400K it doesn’t
    seem so unlikely now.

  53. So is every episode of Top Gear going to finish 5 minutes past the advertised time every week? I cannot tell you how annoying it is to have the show go to 8.45, it then cuts into Heartbreak High and NCIS and is just a pain in the a**.

I notice it has also been starting 5 minutes late – how at 7.30 are you already getting your times out of whack channel 9!

I know I have not brought antyhing new to the table but I wanted to say it anyway!
