Airdate: Santo, Sam and Ed’s Cup Fever!

Working Dog will produce a live review of World Cup games hosted by Santo Cilauro, Sam Pang and Ed Kavalee in front of a studio audience.

Having produced television for the ABC, TEN and Seven, Working Dog now turns its attention to SBS, producing a companion show for its World Cup action.

Santo Cilauro, Sam Pang and Ed Kavalee will host a live review of World Cup games in front of a studio audience from Australian Centre for the Moving Image at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Santo, Sam and Ed’s Cup Fever! will be a half hour programme consisting of “well-informed discussion, ill-informed analysis and heated debate that might just end in fisticuffs or someone letting off a flare.”

As well as pre-recorded clips, guest interviews and surprise cameos, there will also be regular reports from Tony Wilson in South Africa.

SBS’s Manager of Production and Development, Denise Eriksen, said: “SBS is thrilled to be teaming up with Working Dog for Cup Fever! SBS is the home of football and Cup Fever! will perfectly complement our extensive and exclusive coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup across SBS ONE and SBS TWO.”

Presenter / Producer, Santo Cilauro, said: “I’m so excited to be working on SBS – finally my parents are likely to see one of my shows.”

Working Dog has not made any recent statements regarding the future of Thank God You’re Here or The Hollowmen, but is known for their ability to rest and revive formats as desired.

Santo, Sam and Ed’s Cup Fever! premieres 8.30pm Friday June 11 on SBS ONE.

  1. I can’t believe that even though Get This has been off the air 3 years, people are still referencing it. That’s great. I really miss kavalee, martin, and of course marsland (rip).
is there a get this blog/forum anywhere? where people can talk about this sort of stuff.

  2. What Lucious said. This should be really good. Santo has a quirky sense of comedy, he deadpans a lot. And the other two with him are great! I don’t follow soccer carefully any more, but do enjoy a good match. This will draw people like me into the World Cup.

  3. This is dizzy stuff folks! Not even the thugs in the scallop industry can stop me from watching this. With Working Dog on board there is no way this can end up, cheap, nasty and downright boring!
I got my rocks off, aaahhhh how good is this!

  4. Fed Square has to be the ugliest featureless back drop in the country. I guess they can always swing the cameras around and give us a nice view of the train station, the pub or the swamp !

  5. This is great for those of us who are aware of Soccer..eerrr Football but not really into it. If it was just pure football talk from footballers I wouldn’t bother watching but I’m gonna check it out because the people involved are just fans themselves with great personality.

  6. Never been able to take Santo talking about soccer seriously since those ‘Panel’ parodies on the Chris Lilley ‘Big Bite’ sketch show where Santo broke into soccer/pro-wrestling chat for absolutely no reason at random intervals (as indeed he used to do on the real Panel).

p.s. only recently realised the guy doing Santo on that show is Jake Stone, now the lead singer of the band ‘BlueJuice’ (‘Broken Leg’, etc.)

But SBS thing should still be good.
