Gibney tips Meagher for Gold

Rebecca Gibney reckons this year's Gold Logie is headed for a mantlepiece in Summer Bay.

“I hate it. It’s a bit daunting, because I think I’m a bit of a roughie this year.”

So claims Rebecca Gibney in the lead up to the Gold Logie win on Sunday week.

She has her eye on Home and Away’s Ray Meagher, who has played Alf Stewart for 22 years without a nomination.

“I couldn’t believe it when I heard he’s never had a nomination,” she told AAP.

“He’s been around for 40 years and he’s one of the nicest men in the business.”

It contrasts with Meagher actually tipping Gibney this week. He suggested the comedian boys could cancel one another out, while he and Esther Anderson would split the Home and Away voters (there are a lot of them amongst TV Week readers).

Gibney also send some love to Adam Hills, saying, “Adam is there all the time and he never gets a go. And he never expects to.

“I’d love to see if Adam Hills actually won it what he’d say.”

That just leaves Wil Anderson, Paul McDermott, Rove McManus, Shaun Micallef and Esther Anderson needing a little moral support.

Whoever wins better make sure they say something nice about Ray Meagher in their acceptance speech if they want to come off as a nice guy. Preferably with the word “flamin” in it.

  1. Leo – if that were the case, Lisa McCune, Georgie Parker, Kate Ritchie, Rebecca Gibney, Rowena Wallace, Kylie Minogue, Craig McLachlan, John Woods etc. etc. wouldn’t have been eligible. Do we really want Australia’s major TV award only being able to go to someone who hosts their own show??

  2. I thought the Gold Logie was for most popular personality on TV. Surely this should rule out any actor who does appear on tv as themselves in some form?

  3. Every year they put in a older actor whos been around for years and years, look it took John Woods 10 years to finally get the gold, and last year they put in Ian Smith because he was retiring after so many years. As much as l like Ray,l think public with go with Rebecca again.

  4. At first I thought Ray would take it out, but I think it could be Micallef, I’ll be voting for him anyway. Rebecca Gibney still has a good chance. I don’t think Rove has much of a shot since he hasn’t been on TV for a while and Esther Whatsherface has no chance.

  5. if you are a betting person all betting agencies agree it will be rebecca. followed by ray. i don’t know what happening with shaun, when the noms came out he was in 3rd but now he slipping lower behind rove and betfair.com now puts him behind adam and wil as well. i agree that esther is being underestimated.

  6. I originally thought Gibney would get it. But now I think Micallef will. Rafters not on air prior to the Logies will hurt Gibney’s chances IMO.

  7. Methinks this is a case of everybody eating humble pie! I wouldn’t bet my life savings on it, but I would consider eating my shorts if Ray Meagher wins this year. Ms Gibney must be a strong contender, and if not her I would think Shaun Micallef has the better chance. McDermott, Anderson x 2 and Rove stand little or no chance, likewise Adam Hills. Since the Logies went SMS, the internet fans have certainly mounted campaigns ala Ian Smith and Andrew Denton – but Alf???? Packed to the Rafters looks like making another strong sweep!

  8. he does have a good point about will, paul, rove, adam and shaun splitting their votes. i think the winner will be an actor.

i think esther is underestimated, she seems to be the favourite character on home and away, will probably scoop all of kate ritchies’s voters, which are a lot.
